Cool!

My mom went to high school with Howard Anthony's wife Helen, and got to be friends with them both. Heath was a big deal in BH/St. Joe, back in the day.

And when it's all put together, you can fire it up during the northern lights and talk to your son thirty years ago.

If he says something like "Yahoo", be sure to let us know. Wink

In all seriousness, that looks like a fun project. I've been pondering studying for the Extra license and getting back into radio. I suspect it may come in handy soon.

Damn cool ... I saw a movie about this. Problem is that I do not have a relative like this to talk to. Wish this was true and I did.

I'm an Extra Class licensee, got it in 1983 when you had to pass a 20WPM CW test before you could take the Extra Written test. The failure rate was very high back then, around 65 percent when I took it.

Now it's very easy. IIRC, there are kids who aren't even teenage yet who have passed the current test.

That was the movie ... ! Could not remember the name. Thanks.

Heard back from the folks who gave me the HW-101. They had found the tubes a few months ago but gave them away not knowing what they were for, so I am out with the tubes and will have to buy some myself. This could be a bit expensive, but will find a way somehow.

My HW-101 update :

So far I have been able to find most of the missing vacuum tubes with the exception of : (2) 6146 and (1) 6GW8. Guess will have to search online and buy those.

Also need to find the power supply (HP23) and cables. Figure if I find and old HP23 will have to replace the capacitors but should be able to do that without any problem

Am studying for my ham license. Hopefully in a few months, or realistically early next summer, I should be good to go.

Both those tubes seem to be easy to find. AES (Antique Electronics Supply, www.tubesandmore.com ) has both. I’m sure you can find them cheaper somewhere else, but AES has been a trusted source of tube electronics components for decades.

Tube Depot ( www.tubedepot.com ) is good, too, and also has both.

Again I have a power supply with connecting cable here for you. Big Grin That along with a HW-101 and accessories as pictured on the first page of this thread.

I bought all of this from a HAM in Sacramento back in the early '90s to serve as motivation for me to get my ticket. Never happened and at this stage of the game won't ever. It needs a good home old dino and that is you.

Thanks bald1 ... air ! Smile

This Spring I am itching for a road trip, so just might come by your way. Got a partner I use to work with I just spoke with today who is now in Omaha and may be moving back up to North Dakota.

Would love to come by and meet you.
