Waze - do you use it?
Got my new company car today and it has ApplePlay and I’m told interacts with Waze.

What the hell is it and why is everyone on the internet so excited that it now works with Apple Play?

Waze is a GPS navigation app. The GPS on your phone interacts with your car. So your car GPS is constantly updating with current traffic conditions and will route you around traffic jams. Or something like that.

I don't use it. Last time I used it, it told me to drive in a complete circle before letting me continue on my route. That and all the outdated alerts for construction or police just made my decision to stop using it.

Love it. Does a good job of locating the fuzz. It eats battery though.

My kids made me get an Iphone 6 a couple years ago. What's Appleplay?

Did I ever tell y'all that I was on the cutting edge of technology at one time? I was the first one in high school that installed a cassette player (did it myself) in my car. Everyone else was still dealing with 8-tracks for awhile. They were shocked at how much better cassettes were.

Ohhh, why.... why, didn't I pay attention?? (sorry, drama brought by watching an episode of Twilight Zone at the moment).

I tried using Waze in Europe, as everybody said Waze was great. Personally, I found Apple Maps better for navigation. Far better.

Traffic and cops are what it's good for. Though it was better waze back when.

ApplePlay is in some new car infotainment systems, but you can buy a unit that installs it in an older car as well. It allows you to connect your iPhone to the infotainment system so that you see Apple Maps on the car info screen; listen to iTunes or podcasts, and hear your messages read to you.

There’s also Android Auto for Android phone users.

Waze is a map + routing software, augmented by users who choose to click on various indicators such as "debris in roadway," "police visible," "police invisible," "accident," "delay," and many other choices. Waze offers an incredible real time rerouting feature, that if you trust, will take you the best way it can figure out. For example, on I-64 west between Newport News and Richmond, there is always a delay. Waze will find the exit before the delay, based on a reading of vehicle speeds participating with Waze, take you off the interstate, then back on the interstate after the delay section is passed. Google owns Waze, and will be integrating this feature into Google Maps. I predict Waze will live on for a little while, but ultimately be absorbed and made irrelevant by its parent.

I tried it for a bit and it was just alright.
The debris, police, abandon vehicle alerts got old and 3/4 of the time they weren’t even there.
I also don’t like using the phone for GPS since I use it for music and calling as well.
Yes, I know they all get used simulatniously just don’t like that many apps running.
I buy refurbished Garmin units with lifetime updates.
With the last update traffic/construction updates got really really good.

Black92LX ...where do you get a refurb Garmin. I have an old small one that I still use but would like one with larger screeen. Refurb might be a good route

I don't use it often, and it's been a while since I've used it, but it worked well for me. As was mentioned above, it does eat up battery power. Whenever I use mine I hook it up to a charger.

Amazon.
I make sure to buy Certified Refurbs that ship and sell from Amazon.

They tend to offer 3 year protection plans for under $10 if you are into that kind of thing.
The model I linked is like $80 refurbished and $120 new. You can shop for the brands, models, and features you like.
I prefer Garmin. Have a bunch of their products.
My current refurbished is over 2 years old and it is on 10 hours straight a day 4 days in a row per week.

^This. If you're gonna run it on the phone, make sure it's plugged in. I rarely use it as I pretty much travel the same regular routes. But a couple buds who drive all over the city all day use it all the time. Lot of crowd sourced info so it's almost real time traffic/traffic cop updates.

I love Waze. It tells me where the cops are 100% of the time. I do wish I could turn off notifications for everything but police. However, in the morning it always tells me to take a route out of my neighborhood that is actually 4 minutes longer. It's strange and I can't figure why it does that. Once I start driving the opposite direction it corrects to the shorter route with the shorter time.

It also saved me a ton of time going to the beach on Saturday in Newport. Took me in a back way and we totally skipped the line of traffic.

These go to eleven.

I used to. I now use Apple Maps. It interacts with my Apple Watch. Works great.

Usually only when I am stuck in one spot on the interstate. Someone up ahead will often say why.

Waze was created by an Israeli tech firm, and the concept is "traffic via social media." Wazers contribute to reports of police, debris, accidents, etc. and it then advises you on corrective routes to avoid delays.

One of its problems is that accidents, police and so on go on being reported after the issue is gone. It's up to Wazers to report current conditions. And it's tough to do so if you're driving...

As 4MUL8R said, it was acquired by Google, and IMO has become less reliable (Google, after all, is more about YOU than your driving path). I use it from time to time, but my car has a built-in GPS/Nav system, so I don't find it as useful as I once did.

I use it regularly. Yes, sometimes it might run you in a circle for no reason but its other features make it worthwhile to me.
