Anyone know what is going on over at Cloud Defensive?
Last time I was needing something they were having some sort of internal strife causing issues and kept dragging out the EPL launch.
Folks were commenting on quality control issues and large shipping delays.

Now their website says they are moving across the country and they need some time to get back in action.
It’s said that for some time now.

They've been circling the drain for a couple years now. Quality nosedived. Customer service nonresponsive. Massive shipping delays. High employee turnover. Internal infighting. Etc.

I had bought one Cloud Defensive Rein rifle light a few years back. I tried to buy another in mid-2025, not having stayed up to date on their raging dumpster fire behind the scenes. (I subsequently discovered it was a well known thing online.)

After nearly 3 months of no updates and no light, during which I attempted twice to contact Customer Service and got crickets, and then I had eventually found out about all their problems documented online, I did a chargeback through Paypal. Cloud proceeded to also ghost Paypal, with no response to their attempts to contact them and investigate over a two week period.

I eventually got my money back from Paypal, and then sold off my existing CD light, because I no longer had any faith in their company or their warranty.

I'm not alone in my experience, and things at Cloud have reportedly continued to go downhill in the year since.

So don't bother with Cloud, even when/if they get back up and running, and just stick to known solid companies like Streamlight or Surefire.

I knew things were sideways a couple years back when all their models were on Bereli for stupid cheap.

I already had an MCH which is my Duty light and I love it. Then grabbed a Rein on closeout. Got the multi colored Moonshine thing because it was cheap.

Last year or so went to grab a black Rein and read about all the issue.

Still want a black Rein as I prefer it to the Steamlight Protac work provided for the work rifle.
And the multicolored Rein is a no go for work. So I figured I would check again and now they are moving across country when they are/were already in quite a gun and tax friendly state. In the middle of all their turmoil sounds like a terrible idea. After the move they’ll probably have a new name and try a rebrand or something.

It’s a shame as both these lights are awesome.

Ohhh well. Guess, I will just buy some black gaffers tape and make my Rein black for work.

Won’t be till next fiscal year when they’ll buy me some more stuff.

I really like the dual tail cap option of the Rein over the Protac and the cable management and switch mount is far superior.

Have you checked out the Sig Foxtrot MSR Full Size?

Has basically the same output as the Protac HL-X (1350 lumens/33k candela vs. 1300/35k), uses standard scout mounts, has a dual function tailcap, and has a similar micro-switch to the CD Rein. (Or can use any alternate switch with a Surefire plug.)

And it's black.

If you're part of their qualified professionals program, you can get one from Sig for $120.

I'm happy with the existing Protac HL-X on my duty rifle and on some of my personal rifles, but I have a Sig Foxtrot MSR Compact on one of my smaller ARs and it's been great so far. When I'm in the market for my next full size rifle light, I'll probably go with the full size Foxtrot MSR.

Or alternately, if it's just the tailcap and switch mount that you don't like about your issued Protac, you can get dual function tailcaps for those and/or use an aftermarket switch mount.

The latest generation Protac HL-X Pro comes with the dual function "jack cap" tailcap and remote switch from the factory, but you can buy just the tailcap and use it on other Protacs. You'll just also need a new remote switch that's compatible with the jack cap.

I like these aluminum switch mounts for my Protacs. It's a copy of the original (now discontinued) Cloud Defensive LCS mount with integral cable management. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHCC92CF
