On the bright side: the summer attire of the young ladies.

Registered nurse from Oregon, visiting family in Phoenix, AZ, went out on a hike and died from apparent heat-related illness. Somebody forgot to tell her that AZ is not OR.

A hiker missing near Phoenix was found dead Friday evening after suffering an apparent heat-related illness as excessive temperatures continue to sizzle parts of the southwest.

Jessica Christine Lindstrom, 34, had begun a hike at the Deem Hills Recreation Area around 8:30 a.m. that day, but failed to return after several hours, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Lindstrom, a mother of four, was reported missing around 12 p.m., her friends told FOX10 Phoenix.

Family and friends joined firefighters and police in the ensuing search for the missing hiker.

Her remains, however, were discovered around 5 p.m. near a trail in the area, the station reported.

"If we can take something from this unfortunate incident, to please respect the heat and know your limitations when you are out hiking and make sure that you are doing it safely," Phoenix Fire Capt. Scott Douglas told reporters.

Police said specifics about the discovery of Lindstrom’s body are part of an ongoing investigation, though nothing suspicious has been reported.

Fire officials said the death is being investigating as heat-related.

Lindstrom, who worked as a registered nurse in Oregon, was visiting family near Phoenix at the time, according to the Arizona Republic.

Temperatures in Phoenix hit a high of 114 degrees on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect in parts of Arizona through Monday.

September is here! 59 degrees here outside as I type this; got two windows open. High today; maybe 80. Labor Day; the forecast says 96 degrees. But that's typical for the month. A few days of pleasant weather, a few days of yuck, then more days of delight followed by fewer and fewer days of yuck.

I'm not very excited right now. Upper 90's to near 100 all next week.

^^Yep, I'm across the Potomac River from MD and that's our forecast too. 92 or so on Sunday, then more 90s until next Saturday.

No doubt that fall and spring are my favorite times of the year as well.

That said, with my poor circulation issues that I must deal with, I will take the heat of summer over the cold of winter all day long.

It was 45 degrees when I got up at 0700. The forecast looks like a >90 degree heat wave starting Sunday & lasting until Thursday.

Oh well. I won't miss August. I was in the hospital twice last month. Once overnight for surgery to remove my right kidney & ureter, then last week for four days for an infection.

75 degrees here in NW FL this morning and RAINING! We've had over an inch of rain since midnight. Thank goodness. Need the rain badly here.

August definitely won't be missed here . Record setting high temps . September isn't looking too promising either .

We have had overcast all day today with a few sprinkles of rain on and off(we need a LOT of that), and the temp is 80F right now. Boy, does that ever feel good!!!

I know this will sound moronic to some, but it was 98* yesterday here in northwest Houston. HOWEVER, the humidity was only 32%. It was balmy, but not so uncomfortable. At least it wasn't SULTRY...

I hereby declare that the great heat wave of 2023 is finally over. Been several days of sub-100, and the humidity is low. No longer do I see 100-temps in the forecast.
