I've lived in Arizona for 16 years this time and in all that time, we've had 3 scorpions in the house, all next to a drain so evidently they come in through the sewer occasionally.

We have a bug service spray the house and yard every 2 months and that keeps them down to essentially nothing.

Thanks for the welcome. I already have plans. Get Arizona ID then get some guns, real AR-15s, and training.

Wow, what's the waiting list dependent on?

Congrats and welcome to Arizona!!! I made the move from CA three years ago this July. So much to love here: The people are friendlier, the skies and especially sunsets are incredible, lots of great places to enjoy shooting sports. The only downsides are hot summers (in the Scottsdale area where I live), scorpions (mostly outside but very common in the summer), and firearms purchases (I'm spending soooo much more on cool stuff that I couldn't find/buy in CA!!!).

I would have moved to the Prescott Valley if I'd had the option, but family issues compelled us to move to Scottsdale. I'd thought moving to PV would be an option if my wife couldn't deal with the heat, but it wasn't an issue after all and we're very happy with our current situation. Enjoy your new home and all that surrounds it! Maybe we'll have a SF get together soon?

Congratulations. I would love to move to AZ, but the wife won't leave IL (her family is here).

71 TRUCK's post reminds me of the time I called a range in Nebraska. Our daughter had recently moved to the state, we were going out there to visit her and I thought I would check out a range near her place. Being used to IL, I thought it would be a good idea to call first to see what rules, regulations, or other hoops I would need to jump through.

So, I asked the fellow what I'd need in order to do some shooting at their range. There was a pause. Then he said "be sure to bring some ammo". Big Grin

Scorpions are everywhere in much of AZ. If you haven't come across any, it just means you haven't spent much time looking with a black light. I've been stung twice in the house in the last four years. My record for killing them in the yard at night with a torch is 19 in one night. We have glue traps in a lot of corners and usually catch one every other month or so in the house. I've had a few close calls with others I've caught running around the house. I usually catch them on a large strip of packing tape if I can get it in time. Then I crumple it up and toss it. When I was a kid in TX, we used to scoop them up in a glass and give them 15 seconds in the microwave. Gawd, I hate those things. Nothing more worthy of killing with fire than a scorpion.

Welcome to Arizona. I think I'm one of the loaners up on the mountain. Beautiful state, love the weather up here. Still closing windows at night here because of 38* temps. This will be summer # 3 that I have lived life without A/C.

Welcome to our great state. As to scorpions, AZ is home to the most venomous scorpion in North America, the AZ bark scorpion, just a little guy. We use a local exterminator, rather than one of the big companies. He is more reliable, more thorough, and a good source of local gossip/information. He treats around the outside and inside perimeter walls, @$40/month. The only scorpions we find inside are dead or dying.

Down in this area, which is at a considerably lower elevation (and hotter) than PV, 90% of the scorpions I see are bark scorpions. But I did find this big guy one day on the front porch, a Giant Hairy Scorpion. In the first picture it's kind of scrunched up because I had emptied a can of wasp/hornet spray on it. Then I gave it to a neighbor who is an elementary school teacher. Her students posed it in its natural state (second picture), and it was proclaimed the "Hassayampa Elementary Bug of the Day".

When in doubt, mumble

Try hitting them with brake cleaner. They go into a frenzy and sting themselves to death. It's great entertainment.

We have a limit on the number of members. We try to add members that will be involved in competitive shooting as that pays the bills and is the best way to be active in the club.
I forget what our membership limit is (400 I think) as with most clubs you see the same 30 or 40 faces at most of the matches.
When someone doesn’t renew membership for whatever reason, they go down the wait list in order to offer membership
Again any of our numerous matches can be shot by a nonmember ( for example a lot of matches are a $10 charge for members and 15 for nonmembers)
It is the only year round open private club in the area

There is also a club in chino valley that is more limited ( 50/100 yard covered ranges ) but is open to public doesn’t allow drawing from holster etc.
For training you are in close proximity to gunsite Jeff Coopers Mecca of firearms training.(expensive but worth it)

Welcome to Arizona Rey. I grew up in the "Valley", but moved to Rim Country some years ago. I've visited many beautiful places, but none were so attractive overall that I decided to leave Arizona.

Have been in the Prescott/PV/Chino Valley area many times, did the 250 and 499 courses at Gunsite, met the Col., etc. Really like the area, and came close to moving there myself.

PS, I was in LE for many years here in AZ. Can't remember how many times people asked me how/where to register their gun;-)
