Any tips on cleaning a microfiber couch? Login/Join

After a lot of use and a couple of moves we retired our old microfiber couch to the basement. Functionally it's great and has held up well, but it looks like hell. It's white and being microfiber means it has accumulated a few stains over the years. We're finishing up our basement refresher project now and the time has come to clean the couch or buy a new one.

I've cleaned it before with alcohol, but it's in need of a serious deep clean as everything around it will almost all be new. I've seen youtube clips using aerosol glass cleaner, baby wipes, steam cleaners, etc. Any tips from anyone here of what method might work best?

I can't help with micro fiber.

If you opt new and aren't opposed to Ikea, grab one from there. Removable covers make cleaning a breeze. Different colored covers offer the spousal unit the ability to change the look as desired. The Ektorp has served us well for at least three almost four years. Still looks new and sits well.

Hire a steam cleaning company to do it. It's not cheap, but you'll get good results.

^^^ This, or a custom slip cover for the basement couch.

I bet you NEVER buy a white couch again! Wink

I've looked into that and it would be around $400. I'm not sure that we'll put that much into it. Even though it would be cheaper than new, it's still an old couch. I'm hoping to find a DIY solution.

Too late. We have two new ones in the living room now, but the 80lb lab isn't allowed on furniture anymore. Wink

Shouldn’t there be a label attached with instructions? Or the manufacturers contact info so you can ask them?

Call a carpet guy and see how much they would charge.

I used to get my carpet guy to steam my police car seats whenever I got blood on the seat(s)...I would call him and drive over to where he was and he would steam i it in five minutes....

He was very reasonable for one room, but if he did the whole house. Uses oxyclean so it doesn’t bleach the cloth and the steam kills the critters.

That's way, way cheaper than around here for the people that do good work. Granted my couch is a gigantic sectional that seats like 8 people. Luckily I have a friend who owns a company and also owes me a favor or two.

You need to rent an extractor from home depot or local rental place. Buy a "drill brush" on amazon, you want the white brush.

Use Folex carpet cleaner or whatever brand you like. Also you can dilute "super clean degreaser" also available at home depot or walmart.

Grab a Pump sprayer too as your hand will thank you for not using a spray bottle.

Spray the sofa in sections, let it sit a few minutes, don't be afraid to let it get good and wet but not soppy wet. Use the drill brush on it in up down side to side motions, 2x2 ft areas. Then use the extractor to suck out the cleaner and rinse it. Do multiple passes as needed.

This also works on your car carpets and cloth car seats.

All in all it should cost you about 150 and an afternoons work.

Like this.

Thanks for the video and info! I'm going to give this method a go. I have a couple of things coming from Amazon and then will get to HD at some point to rent the extractor and get the carpet cleaner.
