As anyone can imagine, Hondo has been the talk of New England today. He was drafted as a wide receiver in 1962 He had the reflexes of a cat He had one of the lowest pulse rates of a pro athlete He could play an entire NBA game without a rest period No one could sprint up and down the court faster than him His first four championships were four in a row Of course he had 8 rings but he also never lost a championship He made a small fortune with Wendy’s and never had to work after the NBA | |||

I was a die-hard Knicks fan in that era, but I loved watching the great Havlicek and the legendary Celtics play as well! That was some fantastical basketball all right!! __________ "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy." | |||

You would be hard pressed to find another photo that displays as much basketball greatness from just 3 players as this one. Russell, West, & Havlicek...WOW!! Reading about the passing of "Hondo" Havlicek brought tears to my eyes. As a young boy watching the NBA he was one of my first professional sports heroes. Too bad today's professional sports heroes don't quite measure up to Hondo Havlicek. | |||
