Three weeks ago I began another series of treatments to once again rid my body of these internal land mines of pain. At 1:00 AM on a Sunday morning the pain struck with unbearable intensity. Had a ride with the local ambulance service. Got sent home after determining that it was kidney stones with the usual Flo Max and oxycodone to hopefully pass the little spiked monsters. No such luck, back in on Tuesday for a stent in uretor. One passed while the stent was being placed but still three to go and one was determined to be too large to pass intact so litho something or other was needed. Suffered through another week of drugs that did lessen pain but really messed with my head with waking dreams and dizziness. This previous Friday, went in for whatever they were going to do and got things done. What a relief to be thinking clearly again and not doubled over puking. Anyway the gist of all this is the first night when I went in I was given fentanyl in my IV once they determined it was stones for sure. This stuff is unbelievable in it's speed of efficacy and duration, it is no wonder that folks get addicted so quickly. It seemed that within seconds from inserting the syringe needle into the port that the pain diminished and shortly after euphoria arrived. The high wore off in a while but the pain relief endured into midday on Monday. For those in need of pain relief it is amazing and for those with an addictive leaning I certainly understand what an overwhelming desire it could be. My very first kidney stone was big enough to warrant litho, but my understanding is that while I was awake, they only gave me toradol (a powerful non-narcotic NSAID). That said, I was such a wreck that who knows what else they gave me during the whole time I was admitted, transferred to a larger hospital, and worked on. I had a few smaller ones after that (ER one other time), and was given flomax and sent home the other times. After my fourth or fifth, I relented, and acquiesced to going on a Allopurinol prescription to hopefully avoid any further stones. 3 or 4 years now, without another stone, thank God! Prayers for an easy recovery for you!

https://www.google.com/search?...&hl=en&client=safari I use this stuff. I take it with lemon concentrate or fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice. After having stones removed 3 different times at the hospital, it seems to be working. Sorry you suffer from them. Make sure you limit foods with oxalates. Having been there, I'm glad your experience is over. I've not had fentanyl but anything they'd have given me during the experience, I'd have taken gladly.

Have they never analyzed the removed stones to determine if medication could control your body from forming stones? I would try another Urologist. Lick the lollipop of mediocrity once and you suck forever.

My first kidney stone attack also caused me to puke up my guts… the pain was so extreme. They gave me Torodol from one of those antique-looking glass syringes. Yep, see a nephrologist. Have your stones analyzed if you haven’t already. Drink water even when you’re not thirsty. For my type of stone, I avoid combinations of calcium and tannins like tea and ice cream. GOOD LUCK, I hope you never experience this again. ___________________ Company, villainous company hath been the spoil of me.

I had one about twenty years ago, I did throw up from the pain. I was pissed at how small it was, maybe 2 millimeters. Since then I make it a point to drink water with lemon juice in it, so far so good

BigSwede, the ID of the ureter is 0.08-0.16 mm. and those stones aren’t polished marbles. I’ve had multiple, those damn things hurt.

Lemon juice is a poor man’s way to help avoid the common stones. It probably isn’t a silver bullet. Potassium citrate medication can be used. It is prescription. Iced tea gives me terrible stones. I stay away from iced tea and that seems to keep the stones away. You may be consuming foods high in Calcium Oxalates and that may be causing stone formation.

realized 15+ yrs later I had my first when I was about 19, struggled for a day and it passed next one hit me also at work and had the wife picked me up, and off to the doc, thought it was pulled muscle, or some back issue, xray showed nothing 2 shots of demerol and rolled over to the ER for a scan, and given Toradol, passed the stone while waiting, and then passed out, (all that pain meds and no pain I guess) had a few more, one was worth a visit to the ER for Morphine (which was just enough to make me want to sleep, and then be shaken awake every time I did fortunate to never had Litho or a stint, and pass about one a year or so, 2 last Jan, so about due for another scans show my kidneys are like gravel pits,,, ETA, had Flomax once, and Flo it did, never passed a stone on it, but I swear my piss stream could carve granite https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

My kidney stones were a1analyzed to be 100% uric acid, with a urine pH of 5.0. Now I take potassium citrate twice a day and my urine pH is 7.5 ...and no more stones! aileron

I believe you, but only because I passed a 10mm several years ago. Come to find out, my chronic stones are connected to another calcium issue I have.

largest I captured was about the size of a grain of long grain rice, not sure how big that measures, topedo shaped, with crystal ''teeth'' on each end, shook it loose in May, passed it in Oct after drinking a shitton of beer, the rest have been relatively normal looking small irregular shaped balls https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

Much younger, my 2nd one. 3 days in our podonk hospital trying to loose it. First thing they did was give me a dose of castor oil… that about killed me because I already had the shits… The day nurse insisted I walk up and down the hall all day… The night nurse insisted I not move at all because “that would make it more painful!” Sent me home with pain meds “for a few days” to see if it would pass. Now I was newly married and still making up for lost time from my “stingy” first wife… and my bride was always ready and willing, so, well, as soon as I got home and easy enough… we you know… did the deed. I never felt the stone pass, and didn’t catch it when I peed. I can only assume I transferred it to my wife! SO… if I ever get another one, get ready sweetie… I’m trying the home remedy as soon as the pain subsides enough to allow Some people spread happiness wherever they go… some whenever they go.

Kidney stones can be several different types, but the most common are calcium followed by Uric acid. Treating the underlying cause ( high uric acid- same cause for gout) or the high calcium ( sometimes hyper parathyroidism) will usually make a substantial difference- need to know type of stone and address it.
