The Iran War
Perhaps it’s the cynic in me as well, but the longer this drags on, the likelihood of a positive outcome begins to dwindle. Like DOGE, ICE, Election fraud investigation, etc etc - the idea is always sound, the execution ranges from mediocre to well-intentioned but ineffective.

Apologies if I’m being negative, but this is based on years of observation - and I would vote for the man again, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

It's just like the UK issuing a harsh letter for a city being nuked repeatedly. They might actually become cross and start shouting to stop it.

Their ports should be craters and oil infrastructure should blacken the skies.

Iran shoots down a US helicopter the time for a "proportional response" has come and gone. Whoever is suggesting to the President this half-measure tactic needs to be kicked out of decision making.
Iran needs to get hit hard to get to an agreement. Taking out their oil and gas infrastructure would be a good step.

He’s losing me and how he’s handling this war and I’ve always been one of his biggest supporters. This isn’t the time for “proportional”. Give these people what they want and send them to their maker.

I’m tired of hearing Trump say “ they wanna make a deal”. If we get anything less than than the strait opening and the seizure of the uranium we have lost this. God forbid there is any more American bloodshed. It almost happened again today.

Really? In your "police shooting" thread you said ..."when lots of the time they should just be kicking the shit out of the perp. Damn I miss my sap."

You're against American bloodshed unless it's the right American blood being shed?

Absolutely, where force is justified. The appropriate level of force being the keyword. There’s plenty of times you need to split somebody, but you don’t need to use deadly force. I understand you might not agree with me in certain circumstances and that’s ok.
Again, we are here to discuss. When you stop discussing that’s when things break down. Relax take a breath. Back to Trump …. I believe this pinprick done. Today was too little. You don’t have to be “proportional” when it comes to war were they just shut down a 50 or $60 million aircraft and attempted to kill two of our war fighters.

“The United States launched a new round of 'self-defense' strikes on Iran on Wednesday evening amid stalled negotiations with Tehran.

US Central Command announced that starting at 5.15pm ET 'forces began launching additional self-defense strikes against multiple targets in Iran.'

CENTCOM added that the strikes come at the 'Commander in Chief's direction' and were 'in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression.'

Iranian media has since reported that explosions were heard around Minab and Sirik in the southern part of the country, near the Strait of Hormuz. …”

US Launches More Strikes on Iran After Helicopter Downing

In response, Iran’s top military leaders announced that Iran would again close the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States on June 10 began launching new strikes on Iran after the U.S. adversary brought down a U.S. helicopter, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday.

“U.S. Central Command forces began launching additional self-defense strikes today at 5:15 p.m. ET against multiple targets in Iran at the Commander in Chief’s direction,” CENTCOM said in a statement on X. “The strikes are in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression.”

President Donald Trump told Fox News on Wednesday evening that the strikes so far have included the use of 49 Tomahawk missiles inside Iran.

In addition, Trump said U.S. fighter jets are operating over the skies of Iran, taking out radar and air defense systems in the country’s southwestern region, which lies close to the Persian Gulf.

In response, Iran’s top joint military command announced that Iran would again close the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, including ending oil tanker and commercial ship traffic in the critical shipping corridor. Iran said that it will shoot at any vessel attempting to pass the strait.

Trump indicated that behind the scenes, however, Iran’s leaders had taken a different tone and had asked him to end the bombing of the nation.

Trump told Fox News that U.S. strikes would be winding down shortly, but he warned Iran that it needed to quickly agree to a deal with the United States.

CENTCOM said on X Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz was still open.

“Commercial ships are continuing to transit in and out of the Strait of Hormuz tonight,” CENTCOM said.

The strikes had been expected after Trump said earlier the same day that the United States would launch additional attacks on Iran, escalating his rhetoric after Tehran downed a U.S. Army Apache helicopter and as he accused Iranian negotiators of slow-walking the peace talks.

“We’re going to be attacking them and attacking them very hard,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

“We hit them hard yesterday, and we’re going to hit them hard again today.”

Trump said the planned strikes were a response to Iran’s downing of the helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, and he expressed frustration that Tehran had failed to finalize an agreement that he said would permanently block Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“We were really close to a deal, but they keep tapping us along, they keep playing us for suckers,” Trump said.

“They should sign their deal. It’s a good deal.”

The remarks marked a sharp shift from Trump’s comments a day earlier, when he said the United States and Iran were in the “final throes” of negotiations and suggested that a breakthrough could be reached within days.

Earlier on June 10, Trump signaled growing frustration with the pace of negotiations, warning in a Truth Social post that the regime had “taken too long” to reach an agreement and would now “have to pay the price.” He also described Iran’s military as being in disarray and accused Tehran of being “all talk and no action” in the negotiations.

Speaking to reporters in New York in the early morning hours of June 9, Trump said his strong preference was for a negotiated resolution of the conflict, rather than more bloodshed.

“If we do the bombing, you know a lot of people are going to be killed. Who wants to do that? I don’t,” Trump said on June 9.

“We’ll have a signed document that’s actually stronger than doing the bombing.”

Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz would, under the terms of the potential agreement, be opened “immediately upon signing.” Tehran has been restricting freedom of navigation in the strait in retaliation for the joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign.

Yet what ensued was an escalation of tensions in the Gulf: Iran downed a U.S. Apache attack helicopter on June 9, prompting the United States to launch retaliatory strikes. Tehran subsequently launched attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan on June 10, and Iran’s military said it had targeted 21 sites hosting U.S. air and naval assets.

Following the downing of the Apache—and the successful rescue of its two pilots—Trump said the United States would have to respond.

In turn, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a social media post that Tehran “will leave no attack or threat unanswered” and warned foreign forces to withdraw from the region if they want to be safe.

Besides expressing frustration with what he said was Iranian foot-dragging over the negotiations, Trump on June 10 also touted the effectiveness of a U.S.-led blockade targeting Iran’s economy.

“The Fake News Media refuses to report how effective the U.S. Naval blockade is,” Trump wrote in a June 10 post on Truth Social. “Iran is doing zero business, not paying their military, or any of their bills, and quickly becoming a failed nation!”

Blockade Pressure, Iranian Response

Trump has on several occasions credited the blockade, rather than military action, with bringing Iran to the negotiating table.

Speaking to reporters on June 9, he said that economic pressure had proven more effective than a sustained bombing campaign, saying the restrictions were severely straining Iran’s economy and limiting its ability to sustain military operations.

The United States expanded the scope of its maritime restrictions in April, targeting vessels linked to Iran that were carrying goods deemed supportive of Tehran’s military or war-sustaining economy, including industrial materials, electronics, and other dual-use items.

Trump on June 10 doubled down on that assessment, stating that the blockade had largely cut off Iran from international commerce.

“Nothing gets through unless we want it to. It is a steel wall!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Trump also said that “lots of oil is getting out.”

Iranian officials have pushed back against Trump’s characterization of both the negotiations and the effectiveness of U.S. pressure.

Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran on June 10, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran’s adversaries had failed to achieve their objectives through military force and were now attempting to weaken the country by fostering internal divisions.

“They could not reach their goals through other means, and today they hope to achieve their intentions by creating division and discord inside the country,” Pezeshkian said, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

He acknowledged that sanctions and economic restrictions had imposed hardships on the country but said that Iran would not yield to military threats or economic pressure.

“We are under sanctions, our paths have been blocked, and we are facing a difficult test,” Pezeshkian said. “War is not in the interest of the country, but if they want to violate our dignity, land, and territory, we will not submit.”

Iran Is 'Finished': Trump Vows 'Bigger, More Powerful' Bombing Tonight After Tehran Declared Ceasefire 'Meaningless'

'Tomorrow Night' Warning

President Trump is again trying his hand at forcing Iran to negotiate and capitulate through bombing, most recently warning in a statement to Fox News that if Iran does not accept a US deal, it would come under American fire power once again "tomorrow night" -- so the clock is ticking Thursday, apparently.

While Trump claimed the Iranians had contacted Washington, urging a halt to the attacks, Tehran leadership has rejected that this actually happened. The whole situation is somewhat of a return to the same stalemated reality of the opening days and weeks of Operation Epic Fury.

Claims of Ongoing Indirect Talks

Some regional media, such as Al Arabiya, are reporting that negotiations between Tehran and Washington are ongoing (likely only indirectly, if at all) - though there hasn't been official confirmation of this from the Islamic Republic side at all. Instead, they are calling even the extended ceasefire itself 'meaningless'.

According to the latest communication, Iran's Defense Ministry says the country will not back down in the face of threats or pressure, with the national armed forces remaining on high alert, ready to inflict retaliation and punishment.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Trump: US Will Hit Iran 'Very Hard,' Take Kharg Island

President Donald Trump on Thursday morning said the U.S. will be striking Iran "very hard" and "will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points" as it looks to end the Middle East conflict.

In a Truth Social post, Trump declared that Iran's military capabilities have been largely destroyed and warned that additional U.S. military action is imminent.

"The United States will be hitting Iran (Whose Navy, Air Force, Radar, Anti Aircraft, and all other forms of Defense, together with most of its offensive capability, are GONE!), VERY HARD TONIGHT," Trump wrote.

Trump also outlined an aggressive economic strategy aimed at depriving Tehran of energy revenues that have long funded the regime and its military operations.

"At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets," Trump said.

Kharg Island is Iran's primary oil-export terminal and historically has handled the vast majority of the country's crude exports.

Energy analysts have long viewed the facility as critical to Tehran's ability to generate hard-currency revenue.

The president compared the strategy to his administration's approach toward Venezuela.

"We will ... assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America," Trump wrote.

Trump's comments came as U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged strikes for a second consecutive day, further escalating tensions in the region.

The latest American attacks targeted Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems, and air-defense sites.

Iran claimed it responded by firing missiles toward countries that host U.S. military installations, including Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

Regional governments reported interceptions and limited damage, though officials said casualties were minimal.

The latest escalation follows weeks of tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program and Tehran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy chokepoints.

The United States has maintained a naval blockade against Iranian ports while seeking to keep commercial shipping moving through the region.

Negotiations between Washington and Tehran also remain stalled.

The Trump administration has insisted that Iran permanently abandon any path to a nuclear weapon, while Iranian leaders continue demanding sanctions relief and the release of frozen assets.

Trump's latest warning suggests the White House believes military and economic pressure are producing results.

By targeting both Iran's military capabilities and its energy infrastructure, the administration appears intent on forcing Tehran to choose between continued confrontation and accepting U.S. terms for a broader settlement.

"Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump concluded in his post.

I didn't agree with starting a war, but now I believe he's playing this quite well. Any widescale invasion of Iran would cost thousands of lives, and potentially kick off WW3. That is simply not a realistic option. Keep the pressure on Iran to make a deal, and let them piss off their neighbors with the drone attacks. That just helps our cause.
