Iran Navy Warns Hormuz Shut Again; Ships Report Gunfire

Merchant ‌vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday received radio messages from Iran's navy telling them they were not allowed to pass, while two ships reported being hit by gunfire, shipping sources said.

Several commercial vessels tried ‌to transit the strait after receiving a notice to mariners a day earlier saying passage would be allowed but restricted to lanes Iran deemed safe.

On Saturday, at least two ships reported that Iranian boats fired shots, shipping and maritime security sources told Reuters.

The incidents were reported in waters between the Qeshm and Larak islands.

The vessels turned back without completing the crossing, the sources said.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said it had received a ‌report of an incident 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman.

The captain of ‌a tanker said it had been approached by two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps gunboats that fired ‌on the vessel.

The tanker and its crew were safe.

A container ship was also hit by gunfire, a maritime security source said.

Some vessels reported that Iran's ‌navy had been broadcasting a VHF message saying the Strait of Hormuz was closed again.

"Attention all ships, regarding the failure of the U.S. government to fulfill its commitment in the negotiation, Iran declares the ‌Strait of Hormuz completely closed again. No vessel of any type or nationality is allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz," the radio ‌message said.

Hundreds of ships and about ‌20,000 seafarers remain stranded in the Gulf, waiting to pass through the key waterway, which handles about 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows.

Those boats should have been blasted to tiny pieces upon approaching those ships. I am sure there is a reason and it will be disclosed before long I am guessing.

Is anybody surprised that the Iranians don't honor the terms of the truce? I know, rhetorical question.

Under the heading, FAFO, the Iranians embarrassed the President in declaring the Strait of Hormuz again closed just one day after agreeing to opening the passageway. Now the United States will board and seize Iranian ships globally.

quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military has widened its efforts beyond the blockade of Iran's ports to allow its forces around the world to stop any ship tied to Tehran or those suspected of carrying supplies that could help its government, from weapons to oil, metals and electronics.

Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, specifically pointed to operations in the Pacific, saying the U.S. would be targeting vessels that left before the blockade began earlier this week outside the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for energy and other shipments.

U.S. forces in other areas of responsibility “will actively pursue any Iranian-flagged vessel or any vessel attempting to provide material support to Iran,” he told reporters at the Pentagon

I guess the Iranian leaders don't want to be alive any longer because Trump was crystal clear about their remaining purpose in life

Iranian citizens need to start taking control.
They had a chance during all the chaos.
They're starting to look like every other islamic controlled country.
No guts to remove them.

Would you go up against the IRGC unarmed?

Not much future in that unless you like hanging from a crane.

Trump told then to stay hunkered down. I expect he will let them know when it is time.

Why don't we airdrop say suppressed break open suppressed rifles?

Cheap, say a 38 special or 45 LC?

I think those and some starlink terminals could do the job, in Cuba.

We need a way for Persians to feel they're freeing themselves.

No guts or no power?

It’s not like there’s an armed populace there. And it’s that way by design. Most places in the world don’t have a cool thing like the 2nd Amendment in order to protect themselves against shit like tyranny and evil. It’s not like they have free elections. You’re the King because daddy was the King, and your son is going to be the King because you were.

Outside of 1979 Iran, when was the last time there was an armed revolt in an Arab Nation?
You keep your populous uneducated and unarmed, and in fear, you get to control a lot of things.

They still have a chance, because that fight ain’t over yet, and who only knows what’s going on behind the scenes!

Revolutions have to be done right, and the timing is important!
Too early, and too weak, not enough support, and they get run over like a possum in the road.

It’s also hard (as in extremely hard) to put people in the right places over there.
Police
Secret Police
Intelligence Agencies
Military
Spies

Then all of those people are able to use violence and power against the people to gain information.

Read up on Sadam Hussains Iraq and his police, secret police, intelligence agencies…. and how they operated. That stuff goes on all over the Mid-East and Northern Africa.

I can't blame these people for not wanting to risk that. Especially when they've seen it happen to thousands of others in recent months.

Living under a totalitarian regime is very shitty, but sometimes it's better than the alternative, especially when you have a family to think about.

Rifles are too big and fragile. Something small and simple like this:

Use that and up arm with that AK from the dead IRGC he just shot.

Too ineffective.

As to open revolt, don't forget this is a government that killed nearly as many of their citizens over a weekend as we lost during the whole Viet Nam war.

You got the guts to stand up to them with a pointed stick?

Just keep in mind that those same maniacs are at work here as well, and quickly disarming the citizens, state-by-state, city-by-city, without any notable resistance from our Republican politicians.

*edited to clarify that the Republicans are not standing up for us...

I have also heard there are quite a few citizens who support their radical government because they also hate the west, hate Israel, hate the USA, and lots of others who are not like them. An earlier post I made I quoted that I heard 90% of the population does not like the government, but now I'm not so sure what the true figures are, or to what degree they hate/disapprove etc. their government. Not sure why that level of information is hard to come by, but it doesn't surprise me, since the most critical and important information on all sorts of things are on a need to know basis for lack of a better term.

Shouldn't be any surprise. Not to me, at least. Just look at the situation right here at home. Half of the people hate Trump, are lefties and want nothing more than destroying the founding principles of the country.

I know of no reason why we should believe that the average Iranian is going to be our friend—and especially not Israel’s friend—after the war is more or less over. The effects of forty years of propaganda and religious indoctrination don’t disappear overnight, especially when that length of time probably represents the entire adult life of most of the people there.

Despite how bad things may be, many people never get over believing what they were told for decades. That was often remarked about people in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union, and I personally heard an older German mutter “Jawohl, mein Führer,”* under her breath nearly 40 years after the end of the war. She also had an old photograph of a young man in German army uniform in her home, and I strongly suspect it was a loved one who was killed during the conflict. Germans suffered greatly during the war, but that did not necessarily change their minds about their loyalty to the regime or the rightness of its actions.
