US military hits 3 Iranian oil tankers after saying Navy warships were targeted with missiles CENTCOM said the strikes disabled two tankers and destroyed a third after ballistic missiles targeted two U.S. warships, with no Americans On Saturday, CENTCOM struck three Iranian oil tankers after Iran fired ballistic missiles at two Navy warships, though both American vessels evaded the attacks unharmed.
Since February's Operation Epic Fury, American forces have enforced a naval blockade meant to cut off Iranian oil exports, repeatedly targeting tankers attempting to defy it. American forces permanently disabled the M/T Downy off Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask, and completely destroyed the M/T Kylo in the Gulf of Oman, which CENTCOM described as part of a shadow fleet funding the IRGC. Central Command Adm. Brad Cooper warned the military will "if necessary, destroy Iran's limited and exposed oil fleet" to defend American forces from "multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks." Earlier, Iran accused the United States of attacking a tanker near Kharg Island, while negotiations between the nations have collapsed and both sides seek to inflict economic pain.
U.S. President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday in a phone call that he wanted a swift end to the war in Ukraine, something that would allow U.S.-Russia ties to be fully restored, the Kremlin said.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that the pair had discussed the outcome of U.S. peace negotiators' weekend visit to Moscow and Kyiv — something he said both leaders had rated "with a plus sign" — and said that Putin had told Trump what he believed the United States could do to help end the conflict.
Putin had also given Trump his assessment of what the situation on the battlefield was and had made it clear that Russia had no hostile plans towards Europe, Ushakov said.
"Donald Trump clearly emphasized the desirability of bringing the conflict to an end as soon as possible, which would immediately open up prospects — impressive and far-reaching ones at that — for the full restoration of relations between the U.S. and Russia," said Ushakov.
"In his view, this would have a particular impact on trade and economic ties, promising enormous benefits for both countries. Donald Trump is keen to see a breakthrough achieved during his presidency. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin supported this approach."
Ushakov, who said Putin and Trump had also agreed on the need to continue prisoner exchanges, said he was not able to get into more details about what had been discussed, but described the conversation as constructive and said the two leaders had agreed they would stay in touch and speak to each other by phone again if the needed arose.

While the costs for certain models are eye-watering, no lives are lost and their detectability is a challenge for whomever is their target. Apparently this one stopped working a few days before its capture.
The U.S. Navy has lost an advanced uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV), and it is now in Iranian hands. Here’s what we know about the Dive-LD drone and its apparent seizure, and its implications.
Authorities in Iran said earlier today that they had retrieved a U.S. Dive-LD uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) largely intact near the Strait of Hormuz. The regime in Tehran subsequently released pictures and video clips of the UUV being lifted out of the water, seen at various points below. This looks to be the first known instance of an operational deployment of the Dive-LD. This is still a relatively new capability for the U.S. Navy that only began entering service a little more than a year and a half ago. American officials have previously confirmed the use of UUVs, in general, to help keep the Strait of Hormuz free of Iranian naval mines, one of many threats that have dramatically slowed maritime traffic through this critical waterway.

With all this in mind, it is worth noting that the apparent loss of a Dive-LD intact to Iran is still significant, even if the core design is not brand new and if it does not have any especially sensitive mission systems onboard. It is not necessarily ‘exquisite,’ bleeding-edge technology as it is designed to be optionally attritable, but is still an advanced modern system in operational U.S. service now. Insights into its capabilities and limitations would certainly be of interest to Iran and others. What attempts the U.S. military made to recover the Dive-LD are also unknown. However, the fact that it was not destroyed before or while the Iranians were retrieving it points to American forces having completely lost any sense of its location beforehand.

Iran has utilized a clandestine barter-like Agreement to bypass US sanctions, exchanging oil for Chinese goods including military equipment, according to senior sources. This mechanism has provided a financial lifeline for Tehran amid intensified US pressure. Established in 2021, the system allows Tehran to acquire essential imports without utilizing international banking channels. China, purchasing over 80% of Iran's shipped oil, uses these arrangements to resist US economic coercion. Funds move through a China-based financial entity called ChuXin, with estimates showing between $2 billion and $2.5 billion moved through the network over the last year. Roughly 70% of proceeds are allocated to infrastructure projects. China's foreign ministry stated it was "not familiar with the situation you describe," reiterating opposition to unilateral sanctions. A US official noted the administration works with partners to "deprive Iran of the material means of furthering its nuclear ambitions." Andrea Ghiselli, an international politics lecturer at the University of Exeter, stated China employs these mechanisms to show it cannot be coerced by secondary sanctions.
