mrapteam666I didn't realize he was that old.
Growing up in Columbus OH everyone knew who Hayden Frey was.
The way he used those big Tight ends played havoc every year with Ohio State defense.
He was the main reason I looked/considered playing football (again) in high school even though I had switched to soccer.
I always wanted to be a tight end and Iowa was one of the few school to actually use them as a true part of the offense, and not just as blockers with an occasional pass thrown their way.
I just learned this from the link in Bendables post. Coach is one of my favorite tv shows.
A television sitcom, Coach, aired for nine seasons on ABC from 1989-1997. The series starred Craig T. Nelson as Hayden Fox, head football coach of the fictional Minnesota State University Screaming Eagles. The show's creator and producer, Barry Kemp, a University of Iowa alumnus, named the main character Hayden Fox as a tribute to Fry.[

C-DubsRIP Coach Fry.
I had the pleasure to meet him in the mid 80's at Kinnick Stadium after a morning practice. He seemed like a true, down to earth, and charismatic individual.

TMatsWhen I think of Coach Fry, I think of the “ANF” (America Needs Farmers) decals he put on Iowa’s football helmets. They’re still on the helmets today and I think it’s a great thing. America needs farmers. Ranchers too

soflaacI grew up in Ohio watching Big Ten football and while I never considered Iowa a powerhouse team, I respected Haden Fry and looked at him as a man who carried himself with dignity and humility.
He could've easily built up a cult of personality as a successful & well-liked coach, but eschewed that. Class act all the way.

Yep. A good coach and good guy. Raised in an ISU family his Hawkeyes were disliked(a lot) but, there was respect given to the coach.
The Hawks still have the ANF stickers. IIRC ISU countered w/ AHF stuff during the farm crisis in the ‘80’s. AHF= Actually Helps Farmers.
