Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I wear dress shirts to work. I even iron them myself. But I used to get Chaps brand button-down shirts from Kohls. For years and years.

Loved the price, fit, quality, and selection. But then Kohls pretty much stopped carrying button-down dress shirts except in blue and white (non-button "stretch" collar galore).

Please recommend a good quality brand or three that can be found online for say $30-40 each with lots of selections on button downs. Not slim fit either.

If you are a Costco membership I would suggest looking at Kirkland brand.

The Traveler series from Jos A Bank runs about $55 but I can vouch for its quality, fit, and selection. I like them almost as much as Brooks Brothers.

Never pay full price at JosABank. Wait for the 3/$99 sales (or sometimes 4/$99).

I’ve bought online from almost all of the major online custom shirt sellers, and they’re all good, but JAB traveler’s dress shirts fit me just as well and are cheaper. They wear pretty well and are easy to replace as needed.

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

Good point on the sales. I think I bought them at buy 1 get 1 at 50% off so it’s in the OP’s price range.

Kohl's Selection online of the Chaps shirts is pretty extensive. If you like those and know you size, there is your solution.

Belks online carries some good brands. I wear a button down long sleeve every day to work and the ocean washed Nautica are comfortable and hold up.

Since you are in Northern Virginia I would recommend the Macy's in Fair Oaks Mall. There are actually two Macy's in the mall. They have a large area for mens suits and plenty of dress shirts. Just look for 100 percent cotton shirts.

I've been shopping at Jos A Bank for many, many years I've always been happy. Never ever pay full price there wait for sales. When I used to wear suit and tie every day to work my sales guy would call me the day before any big sales. He knew at the least I'd walk out with a few of their signature series ties if he could get me in the door.

I was just into Costco to grab a dress shirt since I was out of town ... the selection was very weak, at least at this store. Disappointing.

Yeah it's definitely hit or miss in store, I typically order online.

Just placed my first order with them last week. Was highly recommended by an old friend who has 30 of them. I’m excited to see how they are.

I caught the 3 for $100 sale. They also have a 4 for $200 sale which I assume is for their higher end shirts.

There is also TM Lewin.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll look into all of them.

Kohl's used to have 8-10 shirts I'd buy, and I would...and they stopped making them in button down--everything, it seems, is the non-button "stretch collar" shirt. Don't like!

Kohls may have just stopped carrying them in your area. Maybe everyone but you in town wears the other style. But as noted, it is an Internet world. Look on their website.

I did. It is corporate-wide. I guess styles have changed, just not my tastes...

I knew I had seen these mentioned on here a while back. Were you happy with the Charles Tyrwhitt shirts?

I don't have to wear dress shirts to work, but wear them for church, etc. I usually have luck at Belk. Also, I love Lands End, but, I only buy theirs when I catch them on a good sale.

JC Penny’s Stafford Line is good, reasonable also.

I like the Stafford Brand, button down Oxfords.
They iron well too!
