Travel trailer experience appreciated
Check off base camp grounds, some of them offer some fairly decent monthly rates and you would not have to move. Heck, some will discount the price if you are willing to cut grass and or do some maintenance around the park.

Sounds like a good idea to consider more conventional housing.
The travel trailers I've seen, even higher end ones, don't look like they would hold up well to full time usage and a nicer and newer one that you'd want would heavily depreciate during that time frame and amount of wear and tear.

I just survived a winter in Wyoming in mine with a wife and teenage daughter (relatively few problems). I agree with the above, look for off base rentals. I’ve found long term (no moving) locations in both CO and WY, electric and water included, for pretty good prices... I’m sure the same can be done in Maine.

If you decide to move forward with a camper I would be happy to provide what I have learned after a relatively short 8 months of full time.
