It appears that they are not taking new members and there is a current member I wish to contact. Need somebody already a member there to pass on my message.

You can either answer here or e-mail me (address in profile). Thanks for any consideration.

If I have violated any forum protocol I apologize - please just delete this post.

Adios,

Suspending registration usually means that the admin is dealing with troll trouble, although there are of course other reasons an admin might take this action. I'd email the webmaster over there.

I used to own that forum.

are you sure you aren't just trying to enter a web based email? From their new members page description:

Please note that if you are trying to register and are being blocked it is because we have yahoo and gmail email accounts blocked for new registrations.

I can't quite feature their not taking new members' but blocking web based emails has it's advantages. Because of that, you had to register here at SF with a non web based email. Have you tried it with that one at Ruger?

Tanks Para. I think they said it had something to do with the authentication algorithm not working (Capcha??), but it has been since February. Every contact I tried was met with the log-in page.

I didn't even get that far. I don't use web-based e-mail.

Since February? Well, that's highly unlikely. Contact the webmaster.

Para: I hate to be a pain, but I can find no link for a webmaster. The board uses open source phpBB software. I admit to not being the most tech savvy guy (I'm old - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it), but this really has me flummoxed.

There's been no new members for getting close to a year now. The captcha expired and can't be renewed and made to work with the old forum software? ..or some such thing. I'm a Mod there (was?) but have taken an extended leave due to a few things making me unhappy. There's no point in contacting anyone, they can't help you.

As for the free web based email, most of them are blocked. There have been times in the past where I unblocked them just long enough to let people register, then shut them off again. I had a few people waiting for me to "let them in", but the other issue came up and it never happened.

I don't really want to join, I just need someone that can access a member's profile so that I can contact that member.

Some members here were also members there. Have you tried searching for the member here?

From this post above, it’s not a matter of not wanting new members.
It’s a logistics issue.

If that's the case, they're going to have to figure it out eventually, because eventually their web host will upgrade their software and RugerForum.com's web board software won't run on it. Then they'll have no members--new or old.

These issues could be fixed quickly but since the current owner lacks the knowledge to perform the necessary upgrades himself, he would have to pay someone to do it. If you're going to run a forum on the cheap, this is what you get.

It has been a very long-standing policy of SIGforum to not deride other firearms forums or their management. This is intended as a courtesy to the administration and/or owners of other forums, and also for the very simple reason that it prevents forum wars, wherein members of different forums snipe at each other.
I point this out so as to be clear about the intent of my remarks. I do not wish to deride rugerforum. As I said in my initial post, I owned that forum many years ago. It's difficult enough to let go of a thing you've cared for and fussed over but it's far worse to see that thing neglected and fall into a sorry state.

The members of rugerforum who are still active there must want it to continue to exist, otherwise they wouldn't still be there, would they? The thing to do is for the owner to solicit the members in order to raise the funds needed to get the place working again. If that forum is in such a sorry state that members cannot even post, then management still has access to their email addresses and could solicit those members in an email campaign, but the longer they wait to take such action, the less likely it is that members would respond.

In discussion forums such as these, people come and people go. Some stay, but most don't. Some are dedicated to visiting daily, but most are casual users. Without constant refreshment of the members roles, a discussion forum will atrophy and then die. New members are the water needed to keep the tree alive. If there exists forums (fora) that are not subject to this truism, then those places are nothing more than exclusive country clubs which will eventually disappear. The core membership of rugerforum should fund the upgrade, since current ownership cannot. There's no shame in this. I know that if I told the members of SIGforum that this place was in danger of going away, they would without hesitation exhibit the generosity I've seen them demonstrate many times over the past two decades.

FWIW, and submitted with the best of intentions.

I hadn't logged on to the Ruger Forum for a couple of years and when I read the OP I decided I'd try and log on, but found I couldn't. I tried several times without success until I realized I was trying to log on to RugerForum.net. I then tried RugerForum.com and logged on without problem.
