Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
hey guys, So the MauJims are pretty beat up, the coating is all scratched and the Rx is out of date. They made great shooting glasses and I have loved them. So it is time for some new ones. caveat: I do not want to buy RayBans and just have the lenses swapped out and the generic tint film put on. I like the company to do their coating/treatment. Have any of you guys done Randolph Aviators with Rx? If so what did you think? This business will get out of control. If you have Maui Jim’s, everything else will be a disappointment. Those are some of the best made. I have never heard of the Randolph and have been collecting sunglasses for 30 years. It doesn’t mean they’re not good, I just haven’t heard of them. The “lol” thread

Send your frames back to MJ with your new prescription. Turn around for me with my 19 year old frames and rx was 2 weeks. Look like they are brand new again. My optician handled everything.

I have RX Ray Bans and the we’re sent to RB to do the lenses. The lenses are marked Ray Ban. I had a previous pair that were done in the manner you described and I would not repeat that again but the new pair is great and much better. "You know, Scotland has its own martial arts. I'll toss my thread drift question in (because I am looking for nearly the same thing): has anyone found a good source for an Oakley wrap-around type sunglass (in my case, for bike riding) which can be built in bi-focal? Can wraparound lenses be fabricated as a bi-focal? Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Is that for reading your phone/cyclometer while riding? Otherwise I wouldn't see a need for it, as a long-time bike rider. _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne

I’ve had new Rx put into my older Serengeti driver frames. I’m a regular Serengeti fan boy I guess, having worn them since 1987 in the Dow Corning days. ----------The weather is here I wish you were beautiful----------

Yes. And to also dual as driving/all-around sunglasses. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. "If dogs don't go to Heaven, I want to go where they go" Will Rogers The definition of the words we used, carry a meaning of their own...

I got a Million of 'em! |
Randolph’s are good to go and American made. I don’t know if they do lenses so talk to your optician about your needs for a lense. My favorite suns are Kaenons. They use a proprietary polymer lense that has the near optical clarity of glass and are built to hold up. I still wear my original pair to mow the lawn and such even though they are well over a decade old.

Spiritually Imperfect |
I just received my very first pair of Randolph Engineering Aviators this week (non-Rx lenses). They are very well made, right here in the US of A. So far, I am impressed with the lenses/clarity/construction. They are properly priced for what you get, IMHO.

Randolph Rangers are premier shooting glasses, widely used in the shotgun sports. They do a full range of prescription lenses and colors in the Ranger line, but I don't know what options would be in the Aviator line. Their quality, though, is highly recommended. The Rangers are interchangeable lens frames as different sky conditions and shooting backgrounds can make the clay birds hard to see. Every shooter's eyes are different, I might pick the bird up better with a brown lens where someone else needs an amber or orange lens. All Rx, available too, with the lens size designed to keep the axis of the eye in line with the Rx of the lens.

I have MJ sunglasses but non-Rx. Rx sunglasses - I buy frames I like and then put in top grade lenses with features I want (polarized, tint grade and color, Hoya trivex, premium AR coating, blue coating). Current frame brand I like are 999.9. YMMV. MJ, Oakley, Rudy Project - I just buy non-RX versions. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." I used SportRx for a pair of progressive Oakley sunglasses. Wasn’t cheap but I will use them in the future when it’s time for a change. Looks like they sell Maui Jim. I’d give them a look.

Almost as Fast as a Speeding Bullet |
I just got a pair of Randolphs and had a local shop put custom tinted progressives in them. The frames are top notch and can hold pretty much any lens you want. ______________________________________________ Aeronautics confers beauty and grandeur, combining art and science for those who devote themselves to it. . . . I have thought about the option to just have new lenses put in the MJ, BUT, I was already at their max Rx strength for these frames since they curve some. I dont think they would do my current prescription. (the outer edges are pretty thick). I believe Oakley insists (as does MJ) that they do the Rx to keep the quality control in house. I would love RayBans but the local shop will only do them in house and wont send them to RayBan to get done. I just really like the look of the aviator and want to give it a try. Maui Jim makes a lot of different frames. I'd find a frame similar to yours that you like and get the prescription ones. I've been wearing Maui Jim's for almost 10 years, daily, and they truly make great glass and some of their lenses (coatings/colors) are phenomenal.

I bought a couple pair directly from their website and was impressed with how quickly Ray Ban got them to me after I sent a photo of prescription.
