Pardons have historically been given after a conviction.
biden issued sweeping pardons in advance of convictions.

Is this something America can pursue? If possible, do you think we will?

There's some incredibly horrible people that have done immeasurable damage to America and allowing a safety parachute will only allow and encourage more of this in the future IMO.

Personally, I pray that we take this to the Supreme Court, set precedent, and feed these cretins to the system for full accountability.

Only way to stop it as far as I can see.

The Constitution says this:
quote:
The President [...] shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

That's the only exception it gives. It doesn't say anything about those who have not been convicted or indicted. IMO there's no legal leg to stand on for overturning them.

I'd like to know what
quote:
Offences against the United States
they are being pardoned for. I don't see how you can one w/o the other.

I read on Newsmax this morning that this fella(can't remember who he was)feels sure these last minute pardons will be challenged legally. I sure hope so.

Me too!

If not illegal, it certainly is unethical and abuses the privilege, IMO.

Of course States have their own sovereign powers. Perhaps we will soon see which States have the courage to step up, and put these traitors to the US to task. Hopefully, States that still have the death penalty.

President Ford pardoned Richard Nixon after he resigned to help heal the nation and move on, but in that case, the cover-up was obvious and fairly well documented. In the case of all of these last minute pardons (and Hunter’s), they’re so broad as to potentially give some leeway if taken to court. I’m hoping they’re challenged.

Covered elsewhere today in a number of other threads on the topic.
Once again, the Biden regime has stunk up the room more than anyone else in the history of the country.
Apparently we’re living in a special time. Not in a good way.

Uhhh, I take issue with this statement. Apparently you haven't been paying attention because today is a new day, a new beginning and our 'Long National NIGHTMARE' is over! We've turned the page, and with God's Grace, America's Golden Age begins today!

Happy Inauguration Day! Wink

Interesting response by the Office of the Pardon Attorney of the US Government, referencing a link to only DJT's Pardons...

Link

Question: Can the President pardon someone before they are indicted, convicted, or sentenced for a federal offense against the United States?

It would be highly unusual, but there have been a few cases where people who had not been charged with a crime were pardoned, including President Gerald Ford's pardon of President Richard Nixon after Watergate, President Jimmy Carter's pardon of Vietnam draft dodgers and President George H.W. Bush's pardon of Caspar Weinberger. President Donald J. Trump pardoned Joseph Arpaio and others after they were charged and convicted, but prior to sentencing. There seems to be examples, Ford/Nixon was mentioned, where the pardon before charging/conviction was accepted. There are also examples where the Presidential pardon was followed up by State charges (Manacourt 2016).

Personally, I’d like to see Ken Paxton go after the Bidens, but that’s just me and my popcorn cravings.

IIRC, the Supreme court has historically given wide latitude to the President's pardon power.
