Glen was once asked if he could read music. He responded, "Not enough to affect my playing."

He was a member of the Wrecking Crew back in the day, so he was a VERY good musician to be associated with them.
If y'all don't know anything about the Wrecking Crew, look them up. There's a pretty good documentary about them on Youtube in the form of a tribute of a son about his dad who was a member. It also pieces on other members, including Glen Campbell.

He does an amazing job with the William Tell Overture, too.

Glen Campbell is one of my top 5 guitarists of all time. He is one of those players who does not rely on sustain and distortion to play leads, he plays cleanly, precisely doesn't use tricks or short cuts.
In an interview shortly after Campbell's death, his best friend Alice Cooper spoke of an incident when Eddie Van Halen talked to Alice to see if he could get Campbell to give him guitar lessons. To this day, I still listen to Glen Campbell songs all the time.

I have the DVD of him in concert with the South Dakota Orchestra. It's really good, the orchestra adds a lot to his performance. .

He was a successful studio guitarist in Nashville before really hitting it big, so he really could play. Those guys are the real talents, musically. Frontmen have other talents, but in terms of playing, the studio guys are uniformly excellent.

Actually, I believe his session work with the Wrecking Crew was out of Los Angeles.

Wow. I did not know he died.
On WestPacs out in the Indian Ocean, I would sing Rhinestone Cowboy to myself.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." He was a studio musician on the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album. He also toured with them for a few months in 1964-1965.

That song is hauntingly beautiful, deeply moving. What an amazing talent and gift of an artist he was.

A great song and look at all the talent sitting there with Glen. Only one missing is John Denver. I didn't see Merle Haggard there.

Mmm, I don't know. Jerry Reed was a great guitar player, but I think Glen Campbell was in a league of his own. To this day I never cease to be amazed at what I come across seeing him play. The variety of styles and techniques of which he was a master is something I've never seen in another guitarist. I think he may well be the best I've seen. I can't put Jerry Reed in the same category.

Glen Campbell and Roy Clark might be a closer match. But Roy could also play fiddle and banjo
