Well maybe it’s a mouse, but Mrs. Mike heard it last night and she wants it to go.

We have a brick veneer home. It got into the wall space from a weep hole (which I found has nothing to keep critters out). So said monster is between the brick and the plywood, making a racket.

Its an exterior wall and I’m fairly certain it hasn’t gnawed thru the plywood and gotten into the insulation. It’s just under a window, which has brick as a lintel…so said mouse…errr monster is there . There is actually nothing to keep him under the window laterally.

There are four weep holes in this section of wall and then there’s a corner on each side.

My question is this….is there something I can squirt into the adjoining weep holes that might make it go away and leave the space between the brick and the exterior of the plywood of the home?

And fire is not the right answer.

Leave a trail of food starting partially in the weep hole, and leading away from it. I had a squirrel in my gas water heater flue one time, and this worked almost immediately.

You can try the trap. If that fails call Pest Control there may be a family there as well. Do not use poison unless you enjoy the smell of death for about two weeks. It is awful.
The Pest control guy will also show you where he got in and seal it up.

I had roof rats. ABC Pest Control came out and set traps and closed any and all critter access to the attic. I could hear them scurrying in the ceiling at night. I also heard a couple of SNAPS and then deathly silence. They are now all gone.

Pull your car/truck up near where the hole is, take a vacuum cleaner hose or similar and put one end onto the exhaust pipe and put the other end against the hole (use duct tape or wire or make some kind of adapter). Open the windows in the house and let the vehicle idle for 20 minutes or so. Let the house air out and you should have killed any and all mice in that space. I've never even noticed a smell from a dead mouse or two.

We had a noxious rodent in our bedroom wall once. It got in through a hole it chewed in the outside window sill. I tried to trap it with a variety of traps without success. I was at Costco one day and saw an institutional size container of cayenne pepper and had an epiphany. I put the entire container (probably 8 ounces or more) in the hole he used. We didn’t hear him chewing or scratching ever again. I suspect he had to exit, stage left. Maybe you could use a turkey baster or a shop vac, set to blow, to puff cayenne powder into the weep holes.

My experience has always been that a dead mouse packs an extremely powerful stench for such a small critter. Either your nose doesn’t work, or your mice are a different species than those around here.

WaterburyBob and Vtail, we are on the same page.

I can’t put a trap outside as this is the same area my big dumb German shepherd is in, and he most certainly will eat any bait or get stuck on a glue trap….or make friends with the monster and adopt it.

I was wondering if I squirted ammonia in the outlying weep holes if that might chase him out?

Did Covid zap your ofactory nerve? Twenty years ago we had mice in the attic. Our landlord used poison. Cound not use the office for two weeks. Gagging throwing up type stuff. {One mouse above our office.} If you have ever been in combat and have been around dead bodies you know the smell.

As Bendable would say, "Call the man." It may not have been the weep holes used as a point of entry. The cost of pest contol is quite affordable.

DCon now comes in a pet proof container. Usually poison makes the mouse feel like it’s suffocating, and it will leave the structure before dying. Usually…

Actually, it did - but that was only a year ago. Even before then I never noticed much of a smell from a mouse.

Maybe it's because I always dealt with them in a cool, dry environment. Being in the woods I've come across many a dead animal, and yes, the dead smell was strong - but those were in hot and humid conditions.

It was mid summer 95 degrees in the shade and 90 percent humidity.

To the other poster: Dcon is warfarin. The mice bleed to death and often go for water. They also die in walls. Same drug used in humans to prevent blood clots.

That’s why we always carried a small jar of Vicks vape-o-rub in our gear bag. Dab on upper lip took care of most dead body smells during my career.

I've been in my house for 30 years had mice twice. Put traps out with peanut butter
and they would lick it clean. I think it was a member here that said pull the cotton
off a Q tip and mix it with the peanut butter and it would snag in their teeth.
Got them every time.

So does the cotton & peanut butter mix choke them to death?

I’m more of a poison guy, but trap also. Of course with a dog around any poison has to be safely away from pets.
