Spot on.

Thats a trick I learned in a Jersey Diner at 3 in the am, trying to sober up after a night of good cheer. Watched the waitress doing that very thing while waiting for my porkrollegg&cheese on a hard roll sandwiches and hash browns. Smile

I just tried that as it was stuff I already had around the house. It worked! Except for a couple of o-rings in the cap, so I soaked them in a solution of water and bleach. That did not work. So, the carafe seems to be ok now except for the o-rings. I’ll see if they affect the coffee tomorrow morning. If not, I hope I can get o-ring replacements or maybe the whole cap replacement.

For what it’s worth, here is the stuff I used. Only thing I could get in this town. Says nothing on the package about any kind of scent, but this stuff stinks to high hell.

Urnex coffee machine cleaner is a great product for this purpose. Available on Amazon for around $10 for a few packs. It used to be sold by the name of Cleancaf. I run it through the coffee maker first and then use the solution to soak coffee-stained stainless travel mugs. No scrubbing. No hassle. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly after use.

I’ve been using Urnex for a couple of years and it Never completely cleans the carafe. Been looking for something better and those dishwasher pods worked excellent. Only problem is the smell and taste of the coffee was unbearable causing me to toss entire pots of coffee.

The salt and ice seemed to get rid of the smell in the carafe, but I could still taste that awful taste the next day, but not as strong. Today on the 3rd pot since using the pod, the coffee was ok, still a slight taste of the pod, but drinkable. As for the cleaning of the carafe with the pod, I give it a 10. As for the odor it leaves behind, the pods get a zero and those things were very expensive and I doubt I will ever use them again. End of rant.
