I live 2 hours south of Tampa, my Son went to the University of Tampa and graduated from there. You can find Very nice areas in the suburbs Its a nice growing City but like all Cities there are areas that you want to stay away from. Fl. has no State income Tax thats a plus as is the weather

Every January, the mini Mardi Gras known as Gaspirilla. Held in Ybor City. Tampa is Close to great beaches, Clearwater & Sand Key. The old Busch gardens amusement park and water park right down the road. Great fishing off the pier adjacent to the sunshine skyway. It’s a fun city. Humidity is fun during the summer months..

Well there is heat, humidity, and traffic. You'd be roughly 1 hr to 1.5 hr away from everything touristy: Decent golf beaches, multitudes of theme parks. As far as ranges goes, and by far my favorite, the Manatee Gun & Archery Club with it's 18 lane 600 yard rifle range.

It’s the first place that Putin plans on bombing with nuclear bombs. So I guess that’s a downside.

My son recently decamped his family from Tampa after about 15+ years there.

The best he had to say about the weather, was the portion he lived in, was a little area N of 'the Bay' that never was hit by hurricanes during that period of time.

On the other hand, he couldn't dig a post host on his place without hitting water. I was unused to a locale where the tip of my aerial going across the Tampa Bay Bridge was the highest point in the state.

According to my son the county there has a three day waiting period for all firearm purchases. Not just handguns. If you have a CCW it is waived. The traffic is a bear there in rush hour. Son is living there while attending college. The rest of the family live 2.5 hours south.

I live in South Tampa. A lot depends on where you are going to live. Tampa has been very good to me. Gasparilla does take over Tampa for a few weeks in January (I am in the original Krewe, YMKG), it is a hoot.

Schools are dependent on where you live, some great, some not so great.

Plenty of entertainment, most of the big concerts make a stop here, and the smaller ones too.

If you like the outdoors, plenty of fishing, golf, hunting, other water sports, a lot really, pick your poison.

In addition, all of the major sports have a presence here (I couldn't care less about basketball). This is a football and hockey town. Always able to get tix for a reasonable price, unless playoffs of course.

I lived most of my formative years in Charleston, SC. I liken my part of town to Charleston, but with a lot more to do.

Feel free to call me at eight one three, seven eight one, six three one six.

Curious on the Tampa area as well. Without trying to hijack the thread... My wife works for a commodity broker doing supply chain management. Port Manatee and related biz is tempting us to consider a move. Lots of suppliers she works with are in the state too.

We found Riverview and Apollo Beach to be places that we could live. The schools were decent if I recall. Fairly hit or miss on schools. We have a 7 and 9 yr old. The home prices seem to be quite reasonable inland and off the gulf. About half to 2/3 cheaper than a comparable home in metro Denver. Gulf properties seemed priced about the same as Denver (roughly on a sqft basis). So in my basic research those items seem to be the major trade-offs. If you want to be on or close to the beach you need to pay for it...but that makes sense.

The biggest attraction to those two areas are their close commute to Tampa via the Selmon Expressway. Locally, they are referred to as "MacDill East," for the obvious reason. If you are not tied to that, there are nicer areas in the Tampa vicinity, IMHO.

have been looking at some properties online this evening ...

would be nice to be proximal to the major hospitals for business (within 20-30 mins or so...)

don't want to fight traffic in the AM

Born and raised here. Moved just east of Tampa 20 years ago to Plant City. Lot's of farms and still "a little bit country"

Blessed as I've had opportunities to travel all over the country bowling in tournaments ,only other area I would consider moving to would be the Ashville area. But it's too cold Smile

major hospitals

You have TGH in downtown Tampa, St. Joseph's further north near the Carrollwood area and then some more further north in Lutz and Wesley Chapel area. To avoid most traffic you have to travel north in the mornings, going south in the afternoon.

If heading to Pinellas county, all bets are off.

I grew up there! Moved way up north 21 years ago to one of the coldest spots in the continental US. Yes, it does get cold and I bitch here and there. But, we do not have life altering weather, as in hurricanes. I do miss the fishing, and women with southern accents!!
