I got a new dual purpose lithium battery. It says it can be used for garden tractors, UTV's motorcycles etc. It's 7ah and 210CCA. I planned on using it in my UTV as that lead acid battery takes a beating with snow plowing in the winter. The UTV is a 2015 Ranger. Will the stator in there keep a charge on a lithium battery? Google AI says yes as long as it has the proper voltage output. AI has been wrong before. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

The dual purpose battery you have seems to be too small. Requirement for that Polaris is close to twice that. Ranger 570 (Mid-Size/Full-Size): Usually requires a 12V, 14Ah–30Ah battery (e.g., ATX14AH, 4010774). Ranger 900 XP: Typically uses larger Group 26 or 30Ah batteries for higher cranking amps (e.g., 500+ CCA). Charging system would be working hard.

Good info thanks! Perhaps my garden tractor will be better suited. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

What does Polaris say? I know with small outboards Suzuki and Tohatsu warn against using Lithium batteries. My understanding is the battery maintenance system (BMS) electronics can be a problem for charging systems on small motors if the BMS switches battery protection on. I really wanted to switch to a LiFePo4 battery to save weight at the ransom, but decided against it.

The OEM lead acid battery in my Yamaha sport bike failed during it's first winter of storage while on a appropriate battery tender. When spring arrived and I went to start the bike, the solenoid just clicked. Warranty for the original battery was one year, so too bad, so sad. Shame on you Yamaha!!! I installed this lithium battery as it was less expensive than the replacement lead acid battery: https://www.sportbiketrackgear...lithium-ion-battery/ The replacement lead acid is here: https://www.sportbiketrackgear...enance-free-battery/ The upcoming 2026 riding season will be the second full year with the lithium ion battery, I have had zero problems with it, or any problems with the electronics and charging system on the bike. The lithium battery is 2/3 the size of the lead acid battery, and 1/2 of the weight.
