Thanks for the input, like online reviews most here have positive reviews. We will see where it goes. Local inventory has most at about 45k to 50k miles. My average yearly milage is middling.

Have recent CVT transmissions been improved? My experience with a 16 Nissan Sentra was less than stellar- it started developing problems about at 80k.

I’ve bought two. The oldest one, a 2014 VW Passat, has 140,000 trouble free miles. The Nissan Frontier had 35,000 miles on it when I bought it in March. Both were CPO’s.

Before I bought a rental I'd shop around for the best deal either from Enterprise or a legit dealership that sells used cars. Who knows how many hundreds of different drivers drove the rental before you buy it and how good or poorly they treated the car. With a used car it's likely only one or two people drove the car so likely to be in better condition.

I'm looking for a used truck, would like to buy new but to expensive, www.cargurus.com has listings nationwide and provides info if the car is overpriced, fair or priced under market value so a good source of information.

That's a very generous timeframe, do it.

My wife is in sales so she’s rented a lot of cars over the years. Practically every one of them was driven hard and put away wet. The interiors were stained and the exteriors were riddled with dents and scratches. I’m sure that there are some rentals that aren’t abused, but I wouldn’t take the chance.

Honda & Subaru seem to have decent CVTs.
My parents have 2 Outbacks, a turbo & non-turbo. My dad got the extended warranty on the turbo, just in case of CVT issues. None so far.
The Subaru CVT acts more like a traditional auto, with simulated 'shifts' vs just a more constant rpm [unless you really get on the throttle, then it goes to its 'optimal' rpm & holds].
Had an Impreza for a rental & had no complaints on a few hours [Chico CA to Sacramento & back] with it for a few days.

My sister has a CRV, not a ton of miles on it yet, but I've driven it & it's more typical CVT behavior, but without the 'rubber band' effect they used to have.

After seeing and hearing how people abuse the crap out of rental cars and lord only knows what bodily fluids have been spilled in them. I would NEVER buy one.

I used to sell cars years ago, stretch and buy a brand new car. When you factor in the lower interest rates and rebates this time of your on a left over, it's most likely cheaper than buying a used 2024, seriously. Plus everything is in warranty and wear items are all new, so all you need to budget as far as maintanence for the first couple of years or 30k miles are oil changes and tire rotations.......

I have bought two, one year old prior rental cars and both were great. I would have no problem buying from Enterprise.

Thanks for the input. After shopping I went ahead and picked up a 2024 VW Taos with 45k from Enterprise. Their prices beat Carmax and regular dealerships by a long shot. Wear and tear is minimal and records show all services performed. My mechanic will check it out Saturday and I have 7 days to return if he says no go.

Head of the the family diagonally opposite from us in the street works for our local Enterprise, and bought an ex-company Nissan X-Trail [do you get that model in US?] SUV-style vehicle two years ago. I took him to get it.

It was immaculate inside and out, with a full history from the second mile it ran - he bought it with 60K on the clock. A lovely car.

Still is, too.

His wife also bought a Honda Jazz, similarly in great shape, as a child/school delivery car.

They all go off hill-walking at the weekends, hence the need for a kinda SUV.

Did I mention the 25% discount he got off the book price?
