My 2024 Buick Envista (loved that car) made it just over a year and was doing fine until getting t-boned today. Totaled.

Can’t do new but I’ve heard good things about Enterprise. Good prices, regular maintenance records and good selection. I know many may have high mileage and may have the “just sold before the issues pop up” sickness. If I get one I’ll use their seven day return timeframe to have it inspected by a trustworthy shop.

Anyone have experience with Enterprise?

I've purchased several cars from them in the past with no problems at all.

I’ve bought two cars through them for my sons. No problems and the maintenance was up to date.

Never bought from them and I was always careful with the cars I rented, Most of the rentals in this area are to folks having the family car repaired.
It is really impossible to tell wheter the previous drivers simulated Steve McQueen or Granny going to the Grocery store.

This goes back a bunch of years, but I once rented an economy car from them that had a wobble in the front end, so I stopped to check tire pressures. Somebody had boosted both fronts to 90 psi to control the wobble somewhat.

They gave me no trouble exchanging it, so maybe it was a customer who hit a curb or something, but most definitely get that inspection!

Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

It's been a while, but back when I was working, people were pretty rough on rental cars. "Drive it like you stole it" was their motto. I think I would take a pass.

I don't know where the Buick Envista is on the price point. But CoolRich59 saying renters can be rough on rentals would point me to buying one on the higher price of rental cars. The kind of people who would rent those more expensive cars would tend to not be rough on cars for the most part.

I pass by their lot everyday, the cars look better than carmax cars.

I realize I am one person but let me dispel that a bit-

I started traveling for work when I was 22. On the road most weeks. We used Hertz back then and you could get top status by volume or money spent. They charged my employer an extra $30/day for me being under 25 so I got to the top pretty fast (this was 2007 so rental cars were way cheaper back then and this was more than half the daily cost of the rental). So I'd get nice cars and beat the tar out of them because I was 22 and stupid.

Rental cars get driven hard. Maintenance may be on time but they use the cheapest parts possible. I had a Nissan this week thad had higher miles but new tires that had some name I'd never heard of so likely china junk or some other 3rd world trash that won't last. They probably get smoked in, people eating all kinds of sloppy food, kids getting sick and all cleaned as fast and cheaply as possible so the next customer can do more of the same to it.


If you go this route, get a Carfax so you can see if it's had a wreck. It isn't foolproof as not all shops report but given how rental cars are driven I'd want to know.

What’s the differce between a 4x4 and a rental?

There some places a 4x4 just can’t go.

I’d be VERY cautious.

I used to work for a place that would do work for them when they were turning over cars to sell. They took care of them and had them sorted when they sold them. I'm considering them for replacing my wife's car since she was just t-boned two weeks ago too.

had to use Enterprise a few times for rentals when my daily was damaged, etc,


locations vary, so keep in mind I am in a burb of a medium sized ish city,


was give a pickup, cause it was all they had, it work and looked fine
turned it in for a SUV due to a visit to DC and I was not going to park a Dodge Ram in DC,
the Ford Edge was fine, 0 issues

had a Ford Fusion once, 0 issues

had a Cooper Countryman (completely surprised by that one being available) 0 issues, but it had less than 5K on it,

did have some Chevy that still had tape on the windshield where it was taped of from the overspray from being painted, from damage,

had to turn in a mitsubishi and a nissan cause either the front or rear plastic bumper cover was flapping in the wind,



when I turned in the chevy that had been painted, it too had a bumper cover that had come loose,


point is, based on my experiences at 2 rental locations, you have a 50/50 chance of getting a good car,


now, having said that, I bought a 2021 RAV4 from a local honda dealer 3 yrs ago,
the car fax showed nothing accident wise, but a rental history
however there is some paint color variations on a few parts,
and I have put about 35K on with no issues, no drama, and just routine oil changes and a recent set of tires

I bought a car from them 15 years ago and was very pleased. Good luck and be thankful there were no injuries.

Too much risk and unknown for me to even consider buying a rental...

BLUF: There are reasons you never see rentals from the major companies more than 2-3 years old... I am heavily inclined to buy new. Fallback would be from a responsible adult.

Given GPS, telemetry, having to put down a credit card before hand; I'm sure treatment of rentals now is better than say the 90's-00's. But... you never know for sure and aside from obvious damage to say seating, springs, body panels who could say if the transaxle is 33% -or- 55% -or- 75% spent.

Maintenance is a different angle... I remember seeing rentals 20 years ago with just the oil change stickers on the windshield and it was likely up to the individual location garages to execute services. I would be the ranch now, mainline rental companies have elaborate maintenance management programs. So, certainly the minimum is being done. BUT, not an inch more.

My company would buy white work vans from them for a decent price.

Vans were cheaper and nice before the installers beat the crap out of them.

They were our go to work vehicle place.

I have 2 friends that have bought from Enterprise. Both have had positive experiences.

We bought a 2017 Infinity QX30 from Enterprise in 2019. It had low miles and ran great. We still have that suv. It is now 8 years old and only has 34,000 miles on it. Very happy. Would buy from Enterprise again.

We bought a Toyota Sienna that was one of theirs. Drive it almost 20 years until some yahoo rear-ended my daughter while she was stopped at a red light.

When I was in the repair business, Enterprise, if they had a location near the shop, would send cars over, mostly for oil changes. They only did an oil filter every other change, charged the cost, and were sometimes (varied by location) slow to pay.

Just about what I was going to say. After hearing people online talk about how they use (abuse) rentals, I would never buy one.
