Another guy made the point that the playoffs begin in Week 1.

It would be interesting to see if / when UCF gets a chance at the big game, if they get smoke checked like the Pac12 reps have so far.

UCF beat Auburn last year. I'd say they would fare pretty well against any of the top teams in the country. Would actually rather see them play Alabama than OU.

Lets be honest, this is a year you could just play one game, Bama vs Clemson in a regular bowl game to decide.

We will see. Remember this is college football, anything can happen. That is the reason I still enjoy college ball. I remember the time Saban tried the field goal against Auburn. They missed it and Auburn ran it back for the score.

think about it - people bitch about who was ranked the 69th, 70th etc getting left out of the NCAA basketball tournament ! Big Grin

Bowl games have been announced. UCF will play LSU ("bayou bumpkins") in the Fiesta Bowl. #5 Georgia will play #15 Texas in the Sugar. If Georgia had to play someone down the rankings, I'd have rather seen them play #8 UCF.

Bama will then beat Clemson. Bama is too good.

Yep. That's the long and short of it.

I think Alabama was a 17 point favorite the last time Oklahoma beat them in the Sugar Bowl with Trevor Knight. OU's offense is world class and will put up points but man that defense is attrocious. I have no idea what to expect.

Until they go to a real (FCS or NFL style) playoff, it ain't even worth watching. Just a reality show.

... and for those who think the CFP is "rigged", here's the final coaches poll ... http://sportspolls.usatoday.co.../polls/coaches-poll/
I really would have liked to see Ohio State or Georgia play UCF instead of LSU. Will be fun watching all the games regardless.

Maybe they could put UCF in the SEC and have them play LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia among others EVERY year. No? ... maybe the ACC then. Yeah, not going to happen. What power school is going to schedule an away game on UCF home turf for one thing. The money isn't there in that venue.

I've mentioned here a time or two that I went to both UF and UCF. Listen, I get it, there is a big difference between SEC football and AAC football.

With that said, after beating Auburn convincingly last year and going undefeated for 25 games UCF deserves a shot. They made their case. Conferences can't be changed easily but you can only guess as to how UCF would fare in a different conference.

The SOS argument is a great talking point but it is only about as valid as comparing similar opponents...for example Pitt only lost to Notre Dame in the last moments by less than a touchdown but were Routed (-31) by UCF this year. Syracuse should have beaten Clemson and would have if the Orange had kicked field goals instead of going for TDs on 4th and goals.

Finally, if you want the four BEST (Can we even agree on a metric to determining that?) teams playing each other OU would be out and UGA would be in. OU has no defense to speak of and would be crushed by UGA.

Of course, all this is just my opinion and I am probably biased. Then again that what the system of a four team INVITATIONAL has left us with. Biased conjecture.

Hang! Hang you say! I say UCF sweeps the stadium with those bayou bumpkins. Smile

I think if UCF hadn’t lost McKenzie Milton, they would be more than a match for either of those teams; without him, they’re a much less attractive matchup.

That's another legitimate argument. Good point.

McKenzie Milton suffered a devastating knee injury that led to blood flow issues and nerve damage in his right leg. Milton already had undergone three surgeries but said to be recovering well from the vascular part of his latest injury. Furthermore, if his recovery continues to go well, he could have reconstructive knee surgery in four to six weeks.

McKenzie Milton is 21 years old. As a sports fan, I only wish him the very best. Whether he knows it now or not, that knee will bother him the rest of his life and especially as he gets older.

I pray injuries like this don't ever happen but they do. And it's maybe a large part of the reason I don't want to see 8 or 16 team CFP in amateur football. There never should have been BCS or CFP. Should have been left as it was for a hundred years ... let the polls decide who the #1 college team is after the regular season and maybe conference championships ... and leave the biased conjecture for armchair quarterbacks as it is even with the CFP.

It clearly is not the answer to ending the complaining, whining and bitching. As someone pointed out fans complain about the NCAA Basketball ratings as well.

Notre Dame did not go to any Bowl games for years because it would potentially interfere with academics. I believe they finally started going when they played Texas in the Cotton Bowl in 1970 and then again in 1971. It is all about the money. More bowls more money.

Playoffs = more exciting Bowl games = more $ revenues.

That's it - it was never about fairness or determining which team is really the best.

Agreed, but it does guaranteed 4 teams out of the top 6-ish to play each other.

And as much as people wank about the Dawgs or Ohio State or UCF, it's very hard to dispute that Alabama and Clemson are the top two teams.

In the past you could never guarantee a showdown, at least now we can.

And yes, college FB is all about the $$$ and the pipeline to the NFL. Like almost anything in life.
