My Old Boy Crosses
Yesterday was a very sad day in our household.

Our dog Jake came to live with us on September 20, 2011, while I was on a business trip halfway across the country, crossed the rainbow bridge at 12 years and 9 months of age. He was ancient for a German Shepherd, but that was just the way Jake was, always a bit ornery, always wanting to blaze his own trail and never all that interested in following the established rules. Even when he was at death’s door and already had his front paws well onto the rainbow bridge at the end of August of 2023, he surprised us and probably the vet even more by backing off and basically saying, “Nope, not ready yet.” Instead of the couple of weeks to maybe a month that the vet expected, he was with us for almost eight more months of love and protection and mischief, and for that, we are very, very grateful.

Jake, we love you and we’ll miss you buddy. Happy trails!

Very sorry for you and your family’s loss. We recently lost our 13 yr old girl. It still hurts but now at about 3 months the urges to do our routine things is less. My sympathies. They take so much when they go.

Please accept our sympathies and note our deceased dachshunds; Bud, Wendy, Macie, Gretchen, and Jacks, will keep Jake company while they wait for us to cross the bridge together.

Any loss of a loved pet is really, really hard on the entire family. Just know his pain/suffering is now over and I expect he will have good time playing with those that proceeded him.

Our most sincere condolences for your loss.

My condolences on the loss of your handsome buddy. One of our Boxers, Boomer, is fighting DM now and I know we'll be having to deal with this at some point.

These threads always bring me to tears, because I know the pain. Yet, I cannot imagine my life without a Dog.

Sorry for your loss.

He had a loving family and stayed with them as long as he could. Can't ask for much more than that.

Deepest condolences. My pups Mack and Dexter will keep him company. Freaking hard to see the screen currently.....this took me back instantly.
