I didn't see any posts this year on Big Boy 4014. We went out to Omaha today to check out their new kids museum and park, take in the Labor Day Parade, earn the Lewis & Clark Trail junior ranger badge and got to see Big Boy 4014 leave near Union Station.

We had seen it parked static before on a previous tour. It was supposed to depart Omaha at 4:45 to hop across the Missouri River for maintenance in Council Bluffs but didn't leave until almost 5:30. The kids were not impressed waiting around that long but they enjoyed the deafening steam whistle and getting to see it puff out of siding back onto the main line. We might go catch it in central Iowa on Wednesday.

Its tour this year will take it to Chicago, down to Houston, then to Fort Worth, before going back to Wyoming.

I saw it a couple weeks ago in Roseville, CA. Um, it's big and the crowds were huge.

It's really, really big.

My buddy and I are going to hop on our motorcycles and catch up to it in one of the small town Texas stops. Can’t wait!

My friend whose son is completely obsessed with trains (he's 4), went up to go see it. Now, all he talks about is Big Boy; wearing his parents out and everyone else that visits. Big Grin

I would love to see it, but it looks like it’s a private event the night it’s in St. Louis.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I bet you can see it from a distance or perhaps catch it chugging along somewhere at a crossing. Its cooler seeing it moving than just sitting there. You can go see the one of Big Boy's brothers (sisters?) parked at the National Museum of Transportation on Barrett Station Road and even climb in it.

I don't know where it will stop and what lines it takes in St Louis though, it will be coming south from IL. I can't imagine its going to stop somewhere near the Amtrak Station, I think it did that previously when people could go see it. Maybe somewhere near I-55?

The railroad museum in Duluth, Minnesota has an articulated steam engine that was used to pull iron ore trains from the Mesabi range to docks on Lake Superior. Each of its two segments has eight driving wheels. It was a BIG engine.

I saw it back in 2019 when it came through the Twin Cities. It was so impressive to see and hear and was hoping that the trip this year would bring it up into Minnesota again, but the closest it was going to be in Iowa was 3.5 hours away. Would love for the kiddos to see it as I'm sure they'll love it but will probably have to wait and see if there will be any trips in 2025.

Leon’s car collection is for the street, not track.

We've seen the one on display above I-80 in Omaha numerous times when we've driven through there. I'd love to see an operational one in person!

Parked at the UP railroad yard right behind where I work. Used to run the old Cotton Belt 819 on the UP tracks until insurance got too expensive.
