We have shark that worked real well until the motor started smoking.
Called up shark customer service, great service. Sent a picture of serial number. Shark sent a new motor assembly. The motor assembly lifts off vacuum, by design.
Has worked great ever since.

I’m sure this is not what you’re looking for, but when we built our house, I installed a Beam central vac. 32 years and never skipped a beat! Little pain dragging the hose around, but no regrets. Sucks like you want her to suck!

We have a Shark Navigator Deluxe. It's the worst piece of shit I've ever owned. It has poor suction, it clogs constantly, it's heavy yet somehow feels cheap, cleaning the filters makes a huge mess, and worst of all, the process to empty it is so counterintuitive that I inevitably end up dumping all the dirt all over the floor trying to get the canister detached from the vacuum. That single appliance has brought forth more profanity from this guy than any other piece of equipment we own.
I didn't even realize ours was a Shark. I saw this thread and told my wife we need a new vacuum, and the guys on Sigforum seem to like the Oreck, the Dyson, or the Shark. She said, " we have a shark." I responded, "that piece of garbage is a shark?" I went and looked...sure enough, it is. Don't buy a Shark.
The Oreck is intriguing. I didn't realize they still made those, but my mom had an industrial bagged vacuum when I was a kid (a Kirby, IIRC), and I never remember us having any of the issues with hers as I have with all these newfangled designs.

Lots of fancy vacuumeers here. (Vacuumeer shall = Vacuum snob . Just for fun) I "run" a BISSELL 2252 CleanView Swivel Upright Bagless for just over $100 on Amazon. Made for pet owners. It does the job while not having all the bells and whistles. Had mine for a few yrs. and still going strong w/ Momma Kiki cat hair in the house. Clean the filters once in awhile, let dry and reassemble.
Just wanted to throw out a cheap base model that gets good reviews. It's not the "Legion" version of a vacuum but it does the job.

I’ve had just about all brands over the years. 11 years ago, after lots or research, I broke down and spent 1000 bucks on a Miele. This machine is the best. It still is the most versatile, convenient and powerful vacuum on the market. And it’s the quietest in my experience. I actually enjoy using this machine on my entire home which has several types of flooring. I just recently gave one to my son and he feels the same way about his new Miele. The old adage still applies to vacuums: you get what you pay for. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Bentonville,
I have a Dyson V10 and it's a great vacuum but Dyson provides no parts. I had a problem with a charger (one of the few accessories available) but was able to find a used one for much less than the very high cost of a replacement. Then I had a gasket bracket break, they are not sold or available through the Dyson repair network. I ended up gluing it back together and so far it has held, but I am looking at Shark now.

I don 't think the Vinny will fit one in his $300 budget. But I agree a central vac is the best system. They are much quieter yet with motors over double the power of traditional vacuums, central vacs move a lot more dirt and air then exhaust all the dirt, pollen, and dust outside. Conventional vacs all incorporate some kind of filter then exhaust the rest back in the house.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
I got my wife a Dyson rechargeable. It has attachments for pet hair and different surfaces. We use it on our ceramic tile, carpet in some rooms and on the throw rugs. This thing works great and is easy to use (my wife has rheumatoid arthritis). We had a German made Miele canister that worked well but the Dyson is much much better.
