I’m sort of interested in a used crewcab pickup that’s for sale there at a dealership. I’m wondering if corrosion from road salt is potentially much of an issue with a 67k mile, 9 year old vehicle in that area. The pictures of the truck appear not to show any appreciable corrosion on the painted steel wheels, but there’s no pictures of the undercarriage. The truck is a WT trim level with crank up windows, rubber floor mats, and a lever on the floor for 4WD. You never see a truck equipped like that around here. I’m a good long day’s drive from Sandy. Anyone in the area who can offer advice or maybe even go by and take a look at the truck? This message has been edited. Last edited by: arfmel,

Used to live there. Yes, road salt is a concern. They spray it on liberally, and cars end up white when it dries. Idk if that particular model truck has special concerns. I always rinse off salt as soon as possible. It isn't common these days to see fenders rusted off like the old days, but you will see rust along seams of neglected vehicles.

You know what, I'm going to be in Salt Lake in that area on the 6th. I may be able to swing by and take a look and maybe even grab some pictures for you. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

Thanks, guys. After looking at the Carfax report I‘ve developed cold feet on the deal. The truck spent most of its life in Edmonton Alberta, which probably salts the shit outta the roads all winter. And it shows 2 owners since the first of this year. I don’t want to put you guys to any trouble.

A few years ago I was looking for a used Tundra for the Son. The search included 3 trucks on MO, mostly below the ‘salt line’. Two trucks in central MO at a dealership looked kinda rough, frame rust. I asked where they came from, they told me an auction in NY. We ended up finding one from the Rockford, IL area that was in better shape than any of those 3.
