Never really had a “bad” duty station.
I’ve been to some really shitty places in this world. Parts of North East Africa suck. I’ll tell you that pretty much all of Somalia is a festering boil on the asshole of the universe. Other places in Central and South America aren’t really “Honeymoon” destinations. There’s a fence line in Korea that kinda blows in Oct/Nov timeframe- cold and wet type weather, and a bunch of fuckers on the other side of the fence that don’t really dig US Marines… I think they were jealous of our cool uniforms and large penises.

But I was there with some great Marines, which made those places better. Or at least our lives while we were there.

I was in Thailand twice. Absolutely beautiful place! But for about a week, it was shitty, because I was working for a complete asshole.

We were in The Suck around the same time IIRC.
Didn’t something happen before you were in Iwakuni? Some local get raped? A few locals get their ass kicked?

IIRC, there were a series of events that happened, and the Japs took it out on The Marines in their passive aggressive manner.

Fort Polk, Louisiana

To paraphrase Erma Bombeck, being at Fort Polk ranked halfway between getting a tooth pulled and dropping a bowling ball on your foot.

Unless you wanted to hunt, fish, or drink, there was absolutely nothing fun to do.
