I am seldom affected by news of a celebrity's passing, but this made me tear up a bit. I know what I will listen to for the rest of the day...

RIP, Mr. Becker.

Never good to hear when we lose talented people.

I think myself to be reasonably intelligent, but never fail to be slightly amazed when reminded that other people age right along with me.

Oddly I had just reloaded my car's player with 'Best of Steely Dan' along with a Donald Fagan one as well, just a week ago.

Their legacy lives/will live on.

Sad news indeed. Really glad we got the opportunity to see them during their Vegas shows earlier this year.

Very sad indeed. They had that distinctive sound that was instantly recognizable. "Do it Again" is a favorite.

God speed Mr. Becker!

I was in high school "73" to "77", so grew up with their music. My two favorite albums are "Pretzel Logic" and "AJA" (make it 3, "Can't Buy A Thrill" as well). Give them all a listen if you've never heard them.

the news is saying that their music has Jazz infused in to it,
if that is in fact the case,
it's the closest Ive come to ever enjoying Jazz

Steely Dan is easily my favorite band of their time, and one of my favorites of all time.

Cheers to Walter Becker.

Fagen says they are rockers with a heavy jazz influence, but are not jazz. Which is accurate. What a great line-up in that video of "My Old School" - Fagen, Becker, Denny Dias, and Skunk Baxter. The original band fell apart not long after, and Fagen and Becker continued on with studio guys.

I liked Steely Dan.

A guy I met when I was just 16, who used to live around here and play in a band around here was asked several times to join Steely Dan.

Elliot Randall was his name. He did lead guitar on Reelin'.

Steely Dan, one of my all-time favorite musical groups of any genre, IMO were close to perfect, almost Beatle-like. Two nerds writing extremely clever, catchy music unlike anyone else, nothing like it, total originals to the end. Yet EVERYONE knew the songs; blacks, whites, Mexicans, metal heads, punkers, disco dancers, etc. all loved Steely Dan in high school. And the two nerds, who wrote these excellent numbers, got the absolute best musicians, producers, and engineers to create the absolute best quality recordings in popular music. And yet these guys loathed publicity, never had their photos on their album jackets, rarely gave interviews, hated to be photographed. They weren't posers, pretentious assholes, nor did they take themselves seriously.

What a perfect "band".
