Anyone order the Turbotax CD?

RogBAnyone order the Turbotax CD?
I bought the authentication code and ordered the CD. I assume once the disc arrives you install it up to the point it asks for the code. Then you proceed as usual.
After a difficult software download years ago I didn’t want to go through that again.

PASigJust do it all online now
There is no reason any longer to install software

architectNo longer have a CD reader in any of my "live" computers. I downloaded and "activated" without issue. From what I recall from my last CD download, you still have to go through the activation process as part of the CD install. Why would you want to deny Intuit the opportunity to resell your personal data?

PASigYou can do TurboTax 100% online now and do not need to install anything.
My home laptop also does not have a CD/DVD drive anymore anyway.

chellim1I like having the CD. I've got them going back at least 20 years. I use the Home & Business edition.
I usually buy it at Sams...

BigSwedeWhat?
If you have used it before you should just have to log in to Turbotax

wrightdI always used the CDs until the newer computers stopped including disc readers, then started using external disk readers, then went to pay for and download the software install image which I still prefer. I have not yet "graduated" from using Turbo Tax's TLS HTML on-line application. I think I get a little more privacy when running local software over a cloud based application, though I'm not sure which option has a wider attack surface, though it wouldn't surprise me if the web app had better security than running local software, which could have a wider attack surface if you didn't have it locked down with a solid vpn and restrictive browser and computer settings. I dunno, this stuff gets more complicated every year, seems you have to jump through more hoops and tricky gotchas before you can key your first page of tax return data into whichever app you end up using.
I've found a few bugs with TurboTax with software over the years, which I reported to them with instructions on how to repeat the failure, but I don't know if they ever fixed any of them.

Rey HRHSince I've gone all electronic, I've downloaded the program and save it to the same directory as the tax files are for that year.
I guess what also pushed me was that laptops don't come with DVD/CD drives anymore.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I was looking for it at Sam's Maplewood the other day and the display said no CD. Could I have misread or misinterpreted? I prefer the CD as well.

chellim1You may have to buy it online for pick up, but they should have the CD in the cage.

It's always been in the cage; I believe I saw a notice that it was no longer available in CD. I'll check again, or perhaps order online. Thanks.

doublesharpI've used TT for about 20 years and always get the cd. Got an e-mail notice that price is $30 off so guess it's time.

SpeedbirdEven if you get your hands on one and have the means to install it. I would be $50 it will require connection to the WWW for software update in order to be effective...
x2 recommend just do it on-line thru TT or get the discounted access code one from Costco

In doing so, if I need to review and refile a tax return 5 years back does the online version of the program still exist and available and useable?

doublesharpwith the disc there is still about a 5 minute update - so what? I'd rather have the disc than not. Cost is the same and I have a disc drive - why not?

I like having the disc, but apparently 2024 is only delivered electronically. No CD.

Yes, a 2024 CD is available. I ordered it for $10 ÷ tax and got it yesterday.
https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/You will need the authentication code that you buy from Costco, Sam's Club etc

Yes, I download a copy and all of my returns are kept in my account on TT
January 23, 2025, 09:18 AM
doublesharpSo if I buy TT at Amazon/Sam's I don't get a cd and must pay $10 and jump thru a hoop or 2 - screw that, download will be fine. I've got a stack of old tt discs and can't recall ever using one after taxes filed.

All your returns filed are in your account and yes you can pull them up.
I'm surprised they even make a physical CD anymore, if anything I would think they would sell a thumb drive with the software now.
