Should be a good vehicle. My Yokohama iceGuard iG51 tires are a couple years old but still doing ok. When they were new, they were top notch.
My Forester has come in handy this week and should in the next few days. I really wish y'all would keep the below zero weather up there though. We ain't used to -10F here.

60K in 18 years Confused ? Seems odd.

KBB puts trade in just under $2,000

It was a leased vehicle. Mileage is legit. AutoCheck, Carfax, etc.

FWIW My 2003 S2000 only has 36k and my 2011 Sonata Ltd 13k. Not everyone pounds the pavement. Smile

Other sources MUCH more for extreme low mileage excellent condition units.
For example autoblog:
Average Market Value
$7,463
Low Market Value
$5,597
High Market Value
$9,328
Private Party Value
$6,343
Trade-in Value
$5,373

Check sites like AutoTrader, Edmunds, etc and you'll find Outbacks of this vintage with 150k-250k going for $5k

Now that sounds like a great deal with the head gaskets getting replaced. I’d ask that they use the new MLS gaskets to avoid future problems. Should last him a good long while.

Bob, looks like a great find on the outback. Incredibly clean car for its age. Congratulations. When will it make it up there to the North Pole?

Noah,
Repairs should be done in 2 weeks or less and hopefully the weather and road conditions will then be conducive to a road trip southwest to pick it up.

And yeah, not only low mileage of 60k, but body and interior in excellent condition. Then add the included preps:
--new battery
--new serpentine belt
--new head gasket with machined heads
--new timing belt w/new tensioner, camshaft seals, etc.
--new water pump and coolant
--engine oil change and filter
--plus the new mounted winter tires off the old '99 Forester

My son should be good to go for quite some time. Big Grin

He's making the trip to Fort Collins on the 13th to pick it up. Repair parts were delayed in route due to carrier congestion following the big storm.

A little over an hour ago my son arrived in Fort Collins, CO to complete the purchase. It is a 4 to 5 hour drive each way. They left very early this morning to avoid the impending major snow storm that will hit the region later tonight. They expect to be back in Rapid City and off the road well ahead of it.

Again thanks to all that posted assistance in this thread. Especially Aeteocles for finding the low mileage Outback listing that we ultimately went with. Big Grin

Oh and Oz_Shadow, the certified mechanic / shop had already opted for a MLS head gasket. Everything else was OEM.

FYI - if/when you replace tires - do not use directional tread tires - Subies do not like that style. All is well thru the 2nd rotation - not flipping side to side screws the treadwear. Happened to me twice on my stable before I learned my lesson.

We're long time Subie owners as previously posted in this thread so no worries. FWIW the Outback was fitted with new Firestone All Weather tires (not the greatest but still...) by the dealer and we have a complete set of brand new mounted General Altimax Arctic winter tires here for it as well. Big Grin

Just got a cell call from my son who is en route back here. Really likes the car save one feature he would rather do without. Had to laugh... it was the electronic seat positioning control. He'd prefer the less capable manual lever. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Said that the Outback feels / drives much "sportier" than the old Forester despite having the same boxer engines.

They made it back with about 90 minutes to spare before the first fingers of the massive storm front arrived here.

The replacement car chapter is now closed. Big Grin

Ironically even though the storm hadn't arrived this afternoon, I lost power here for 45 minutes at 2:45pm local.

We're on the northern edge of the massive storm forecast for Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. There were two forecast models: earlier arrival with huge snow amounts and late arrival with much less.

Looks like a late arrival. We have foggy rain currently. For Rapid City they say snow late tonight now with just 2 to 4 inches and Sunday with another 3 to 5. More amounts at higher elevations (e.g. Deadwood, Lead), further west (e.g Spearfish), and south (e.g. Hot Springs, Custer).
