OutnumberedMinneapolis - safe place for overnight street parking?
I’m visiting my son Saturday/Sunday, who lives in downtown Minneapolis. He has heated underground parking, but only for his car. I need to ditch my Lexus somewhere from Saturday mid/late morning, until Sunday afternoon. I’d like to find it with windows intact and wheels still attached when I return! Any suggestions?

Albert Lea?

I've *personally* had no issues at the Radisson Blu at the Mall of America when I've been there for conferences...YMMV.

lastmanstandingYou're rolling the dice anywhere in Minneapolis. The I can't breathe people are likely to show up anywhere.

Opus DeiTowing companies usually have someone 24/7/365, so since your son lives there, maybe he could find a place with someone available Sunday so you could get your vehicle?

rizzleRental car places have paid parking near the airports around here. If I needed to rent a car there was a place nearby that was available 24/7 to park mine. Usually unrelated to the rental company, they would take anyone.

ShouldBFishinProbably not ideal for you, but I'm 30ish minutes NW of there in a quiet town, if you want you can park in our cul-de-sac.

I know AI answers are frowned upon but it’s so true: Our car window glass was shattered and it created a cool pattern ...The term "Detroit diamonds" is a colloquialism for the glittering, shattered pieces of broken car window glass, especially after a car break-in. The name refers to the way the glass sparkles like a diamond when light hits it, and the term is associated with Detroit because of the prevalence of car break-ins and the shiny, reflective nature of safety glass.
How it got the name: The term "diamonds" comes from the visual appearance of the shattered safety glass, which breaks into small, reflective, and often iridescent pieces that sparkle in the light.
The "Detroit" connection: The name is linked to the city of Detroit due to the frequency of car break-ins, which leave behind these "diamonds" on streets and sidewalks.
What it is: It is the result of safety glass breaking, which is designed to fracture into dull, pebble-like pieces rather than sharp shards.

CooksterLook into booking a room at a hotel that has a secure parking lot, like this one. . .
https://www.booking.com/hotel/...5&type=total&ucfs=1&. . .and leave your vehicle there.
Even though you may not sleep there, it may be ‘worth’ the peace of mind you’ll have.

YooperSigsWhen traveling to any major city, I leave my personal car at home and rent a car. That way, if I become involved in a crash or vandalism / theft, I dont have to worry about getting my car home to get it fixed. I would definitely do that for a trip to Shittyapolis.

Ronin1069As mentioned, be very careful about where you park…Minneapolis is famous for near mafia-like towing tactics.

Frenchy1004Since he is downtown may I suggest parking in one of the ramps for HCMC? Its one of the major hospitals in the metro so people coming and going at all hours of the day and probably would have some type of security doing patrols through the ramps as well. Not sure what the parking fees would be for the duration but probably less than some of the other suggestions mentioned so far.

Yup, left mine there recently for a trip over four days - cost me $97. Safe and sound for $25/day.

OutnumberedThank you for all the help (and offers) ladies and gentlemen! Evidently his building has a couple guest spots in their lot, which is well lit, and between two buildings, with very little access. Plus there’s apartments overlooking the lot on two sides, so hopefully not a popular spot for miscreants. I guess I’ll find out in the morning! He’s in “the northeast” near Hennepin and Central, which hopefully doesn’t have as much trouble as some other areas. Fingers crossed!
