Tell me about your experience with the Standard MFG. DP-12.

My LGS has one on the shelf that they would like to move. I'm seriously considering buy it!

I've never dealt with Standard Manufacturing. Is the DP-12 reliable?

Haven't, but really interested, been thinking about a KelTec KSG or KS7, bullpup shotgun as a HD option, even the KSG410 might be good.

Buddy had a KS7, high brass #4 shot was quite the solid thump, borderline painful.

DP-12.

I didn’t know what it is…

The first of its kind, a premium defense, double barreled, pump, 12 gauge shotgun that quickly fires 16 rounds.

Damn!

Let us know what it’s like!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Son, lives in CA (one of the few he could buy) bought one a few years ago. Accessorized the crap out of it. Range time was un exceptional - no hiccups, little recoil, a blast to fire. Sold it as he thought it was a little over the top and bought a CA-legal AK.

The question is how much do they want to move it??
It’s a lot more clunky than the KSG but probably a bit better built.
We had one that arrived not functioning. For some reason foreend would move back and forth but it never would move the bolt and the safety selector just spun all the way around without ever activating the safety.
Gun went back and they fixed quickly. Gun sat for a very long time before someone actually bought it.
I want to say they were going for like $1500+ years ago when they first came out.
PSA has them for $1k now.

Not really looking for something of the sort myself so $1k is way too much for me.
But their customer service was great.

It definitely has the cool factor going. I just watched a 7 minute video on it. Looks like you shoot twice, pump, and twice again. Think it would take some getting used to, in fact in the video, the guy shot twice, then flinched when it didn’t go bang on the third shot. Don’t think I would use it for home defense, but would be fun to shoot.

I tested it and the KSG12 (10-15 rds through both) and went with the KSG12. KSG7 felt like a toy to me, so i ruled it out. The DP12 was very well built but it was ridiculously heavy. Hopefully you held it when you saw it. If so, imagine what it's like fully loaded. Sometimes too much is just that...too much. It's actually overbuilt in my opinion.

I chose the KSG12 because pricing is more in line with what it is and there have been several revisions since inception, so the kinks have been worked out. The weight of the KSG is ALOT more reasonable and overall it just felt better to me in my hands.

Standard Manufacturing is owned by Tony Galazan and I wouldn't purchase anything made by one of his companies. As for why, if a gun has a manufacturing defect that defect is NOT covered by the Warranty.

Below is just a snippet of the Terms of Service from the Connecticut Shotgun web site but it's an informative snippet. Take note of item 13. If you sue him for refusing to correct a really hosed up shotgun and win a judgement in Court against him he expects you to pay for the cost of that judgement and his legal team.

quote:
9. I acknowledge that unless otherwise specified in writing by Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company, new firearms manufactured by Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company come with a one (1) year warranty to the original purchaser. I acknowledge that there is no Warranty for any second-hand gun. I acknowledge that there is no warranty on non-firearm merchandise sold under the Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company name. I acknowledge that non-firearms are anything that is not an actual gun. This warranty applies to only workmanship and material. Misuse or normal wear are not covered in any way. At its sole discretion, Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company may repair or replace any items or components it believes may be covered under such warranty period.

10. I agree that the shipping of any firearm or merchandise sold under the Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company name for any reason whatsoever to the Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company is my sole responsibility. I agree that this includes obtaining an RMA from the Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company, properly packaging the firearm or said merchandise to ensure no damage to the firearm or said merchandise occurs during return shipping to Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company, and I further agree that I shall incur all shipping charges and insurance costs.

11. I agree that any disputes arising from this agreement or any transaction between Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company fall under the jurisdiction of the State of Connecticut, and any litigation shall be held in the state of Connecticut.

12. I agree that when any customizations are made to my order, it is not cancellable.

13. I agree to pay any and all legal fees and judgments incurred by Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company regarding this transaction regardless of the outcome.

I've stopped counting.

Interesting. As I mentioned before got a bum gun from them and they were very cordial and easy to deal with.
Paid shipping both ways and asked no questions or made no qualms.
Just fixed the gun and sent it back.
