I think that is a record.

In some ways yes, others no.

* US Population as per April 2010 census: 308,745,538
* Total eligible to vote: 218,959,000
* Total registered to vote: 146,311,000
* and if 140,000,000 Vite today that's right at 45% voter turnout by % of population.

* Total who voted in 2012: 126,144,000
* Total who voted in 2008: just under 130,000,000, highest ever before today...

* Percent of Americans who voted in 2012: 57.5 %
* Percent of Americans who voted in 2008: 62.3 %
* Percent of Americans who voted in 2004: 60.4 %
* Percent of Americans who voted in 2000: 54.2 %

...and in the last 100 years no Presidential election has seen 65% or higher turnout:

...and, sort of similarly, if Trump wins by a margin of 9% or more, it will be higher than both Bush men, Clinton, both Obama wins, one from Reagan, and several others, IIRC.

fyi

Stated as a percentage of the entire population is useless, as the number of those not eligible to vote (under 18, etc.), as a percentage of the overall population, changes with each election. The only statistically significant data would be as a percentage of those eligible to vote.

THE Panhandle needs to get their asses out there!

Two more votes for Trump, my girlfriend and I got there and voted about 1:30, no line in this small town.

Local elections, I decided to vote for Mark Kirk despite his dismal record since his stroke. I'm just cynical enough to hope he is forced to retire for health reasons, and that our RINO Gov grows a pair and appoints a real Republican to replace him. Fat chance, but still a better alternative than Tammy Duckworth.

I didn't pick the metrics, these are simply the commonly recorded statistics. And I don't disagree that there are better ways to measure it. Feel free to dig up whatever other stats you like. I had simply saved these some months back, and in general - when pundits and other sources talk about voter turnout and such these are what they've been using.

The polls in Florida, Georgia and Virginia will close in 15 minutes. This is about to get very interesting.

I have not been as vocal as most in this thread since it started, but that doesn't mean I haven't followed it.

Over the past months, it has been my source of non-biased media information about the presidential race, and like all things it shall eventually end.

As a conservative, who like many in our great country, is deeply concerned over the path it has taken over the past few years. I pray that path will be returned tonight to the direction of right, freedom and truth.

Many thanks to all the forum members, who not always politely discussed the candidates , in this thread that cleared up many misconceptions I picked up during the past months.

And Mr Para, loyalty does matter.

I think the best will happen tonight.

In the panhandle. A better statement would have been that nearly all of FL will close at 7pm ET.

During the last week of rousing political debate I had someone argue that the people would be useless with some AR15s against a real military, so what was the use? It took a lot of effort to not yell WOLVERINES! as an argument.

I despise that results will be posted before the last vote is in - potentially disillusioning those that haven't voted yet.

Why can't it wait till the last poll closes?
