If the Presidential election goes to the House because no candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the vote is by state, each state having one vote. Presumably, each state's caucus would determine the state vote by majority vote of the Representatives. The last time I toted it up, a great many states were majority Republican.
The vote would be taken in this Congress, not the next one, I presume, right after the Electoral College vote did not produce a victor.

Yes 538 does equal 269. I was asking if this was possible given the make up of the states in play.

McMullin won't win Utah. There's still a chance of a deadlock though even if McMullin loses. What's interesting is that Trump could possibly split the electoral votes in Maine giving him exactly 270 and winning the Presidency. That'd be something.
