In 1992, President Bush was gaining on Bill Clinton as Election Day approached. But just four days before the election, the special counsel, Lawrence Walsh, obtained a new indictment of former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger.

Weinberger had been indicted earlier in the year. But the new indictment cited a Weinberger diary entry that contradicted something President Bush had said.

The Clintons seized on the new indictment, howling about a “culture of corruption” that supposedly pervaded the administration. Bush’s poll numbers declined and Bill Clinton won the election.

Shortly after the election, a federal judge threw out the new indictment because it violated the five-year statute of limitations and improperly broadened the original charges. President Bush then pardoned Weinberger.

Keep this history in mind during the coming days when you hear Democratic hacks talking about how awful it is for law enforcement officials and/or prosecutors to “interfere” in the presidential election process.

There is a lot of speculative cause and effect, "this happened, and then this other happened, so the one must have caused the other," mostly fiction.

We spend a great deal of time here reacting to polls, with absurd admiration, or enthusiastic trashing, depending on whether the poll pleases our preconceptions.

I for one, do not believe that many people changed their minds in the last days enough to flip the election in the case you cite. It just can't be proven except by statistics, 63.7% of which are misleading and the rest flat wrong.

Much (35-40% or so) of what is contributing to the decline of western democratic Christian civilization is the growing reliance on and misuse of statistics.

Well, one thing that is different is that the NYPD had it and gave it to the FBI. I'd imagine that the FBI doesn't know how much of it the NYPD saw and has to assume all of it. If there is anything in there that they can't ignore then they have to respond lest someone from NYPD call them out on not dealing with the info.

How long does it take to do a total copy of a hard disk? Even the possibility that they could have a copy waiting out there would be enough to scare them into finally doing the job.

Well, just a quick update regarding my wife not voting for Trump and staying home as reported a few pages back.... it looks like she's changed her mind!

Not sure who or what got to her exactly, but apparently after watching enough HiLIARy videos on FaceBook and YouTube, she sees a better side of Trump now and the pure evil that is Klinton, so she's going to go vote for DT after all!!!

It may be only one vote, but it's going to be a happy vote for me!

I am so sick of this "the FBI shouldn't interfere with an election" BS. It's exactly what they did on July 5th. It's way to late to restore any of my faith in them or their dirtbag director, but all they are doing is trying to follow the law. If that "interferes" with someone's presidential hopes, well that someone shouldn't have put themselves in that position to begin with.
