Yes, of course. Fight him all you want in the primary, but vote for him in the general. Numbers are everything in Congress. Most individual members have very little influence. So don't think of it as voting for Kirk, but voting for a Republican majority.

I am so sorry, but I have deleted that email.....I just checked. My memory sucks these days, so I can't remember the author's name, but he writes for the Huffington Report on a daily basis. If I could just remember the name of the article....but I can't. I believe that the article was genuine, and I will see if my friend will send it to me again.
Where did this end up? If your friend can resend the email it might be searchable. I'd hate to think this was made-up from whole cloth, but I guess it's possible.

I dont know what a husting is, but Reagan did campaign for Bush Sr. I lived in Columbus, Ohio, in 1988. I saw Reagan's motorcade on the interstate while I was driving to work (east side near the airport).
