No, wait, Trump said he was meeting with the NRA yadda yadda, so let's complain about him.

At best that was a poorly crafted statement. He should have said I'll be meeting with the NRA to discuss the left's attempts to ban people on the no fly list from buying guns.

If that's not what he meant his first reaction should be criticized. His first instinct should be its wrong not I'm going to have to meet with the NRA to talk about it. There may not be a better alternative, but it's troubling his gut reaction may have put him on the wrong side of things. That’s not whining. The guy doesn’t walk on water, so if he is taking the wrong position he needs to be called out and pushed in the right direction. It's not a big deal and shouldn't change votes in November.

Trump needs to not react to the commie narrative. He really needs to counter with the stories about the FBI investigations being stopped, and the PC issues that keep impeding real action.
I like to keep pointing out to the antis that the AR15 has been commercially available since 1963. The rifle has changed very little over50+ years. The attitudes of immigrants since then has changed quite a bit more. If you allow immigrants into the country that hate it, you generate a culture of conflict. The shooter's father is a perfect example, and his son's actions should have been pretty predictable if not for all the PC nonsense.
Trump was pointing this out, but for some reason he seems to be reacting to the MSM narrative now.

Why would we need to ban purchases for people on the no-fly list?

1) People on the no-fly list shouldn't be in the country?

2) Would a ban be practically effective? Don't we have thousands of felons who somehow possess guns? If people continue to enter the country illegally, is it really that much harder for them to enter with guns?

Are these bans just a false sense of security or would they actually have practical merit? How would we measure efficacy? Why not focus on the root of the problem -- people who would do us harm are in the country? Eliminate the problem, not the tool.

I am 100% certain that the powers to be at the NRA will properly inform Trump as to their wishes for any possible legislation or proposals and offer him talking points.

I was a lobbyist for many years. If you do not sit down and strategize with your client/supporters you are doomed for failure. Trump and the NRA are doing just that.

You better believe the gun-grabbing zealots are sitting down this very moment and trying to come up with plans to strip us of our freedoms. Have trust in Trump and the NRA, unless of course they do something to give us reason not to.

I agree with Para, let's not jump to any hasty conclusions.

The important thing is to make certain you and yours VOTE for TRUMP in the upcoming election. We have no other choice!

I was just listening to Trump's speech and he said if some of those people in the club were armed, "sending bullets the other way", the tragedy could have be stopped. He's making some great points right now.

ETA: Statement By the NRA-ILA.
quote:
The executive director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, released the following statement regarding terror watchlists:

We are happy to meet with Donald Trump. The NRA's position on this issue has not changed. The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing. If an investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale, and arrest the terrorist. At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed. That has been the position of Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tex.) and a majority of the U.S. Senate. Sadly, President Obama and his allies would prefer to play politics with this issue.

That's exactly what was posted earlier.

We will know shortly what he meant by it. No need for any panic. If need for panic arises, official notification will be given! Smile

I don't know why there seems to be this readiness, even eagerness, to turn on Trump. Maybe it's because the Republicans were so are so treacherous... we've been burned so often.

I'd like to see the FBI flagged whenever somebody on the terrorist watch list buys a firearm. Not prevented from buying, but however they prioritize the most dangerous, this would bump that person up the list.

It's a simple point, but it (apparently) needs to be repeated and repeated: the alternative to Donald Trump is Hillary Clinton. If that doesn't make things clear as crystal, I don't know what would.

Anyone being investigated by the FBI should be prohibited from purchasing firearms or running for president.

Now that Trump is the presumed nominee, he needs to move his 'perception in the eyes of the voter' closer to the middle to attract undecided or moveable votes, without alienating those moderates who are already in his camp. Showing moderation in this way (meeting with the NRA) is a calculated tactic to achieve that result, and could swing some 'on the fence' votes to him.

He needs to move those votes, or else we're stuck with four-eight years of you know who.

From here on out, it's not about what we dyed-in-the-wool conservatives think as much as it is that he needs to pander to undecided and moveable voters.

So, evaluate his moves on their merit tactically, not their stand-alone merit in your eyes.
