This hits the nail on the head. We know that Cruz would be great, but we also know that he won't make it this time around.

Trump is ideal. He has and will "take the gloves off and get dirty."

Trump's got a broad enough appeal that he can bring in those that *always* pull the 'd' lever, like our Ronald Reagan did Smile
(God rest his soul).

My hope is also that folks will wake up enough to band together (finally!!!) and start shoving back at the "Leftist revolutionaries and their mindless sympathizers (who) have exposed themselves for all to see." (Darthfuster)

As Mr. DF said, "we know who they are."

Another terrorist attack on US soil- with Barry's pathetic weakling reaction to it, with a bunch of threats and pretty-sounding words and nothing else- would pretty much cinch the White House for Trump. Hell, we may be there already, but another attack would do it, because you know widdle Barry doesn't pack the gear to do the job. Never has, never will.

Any reservations I have about Trump would be offset by a Cruz VP.

Something that struck me very strongly years ago when our then-sheriff was facing a recall was that the American public claims to hate politicians—right up to the moment when they stop acting like politicians and follow their own principles and instincts. Then people are outraged that they dare to not check the opinion polls in the morning before deciding whether to put sugar in their coffee (to avoid mentioning a less-classy morning activity).

The outcome of the nomination and the election will be what it will be regardless of my concerns or input, so I don’t bother much with either at this point, but I’m glad to see that we finally have a major candidate who’s got the confidence and courage to be himself. Maybe some of the rest will learn something, and maybe the American public will too.

It could happen.

Trump seems to mute / temper his criticism of Cruz in particular.

Liberal / Dem / establishment heads would explode.

Sign me up.

So what? To me, presidential means getting shit done - effectively and effeciently. Do you honestly care if a guy signs a teat every now and again. It just shows you he doesn't cater to people like you...people who care about the appearance more than the outcome.

Barry is busy undermining our military assets esp our navy and missile defense system. Give him one more year and our ability to effectively respond to threats will be seriously compromised no matter who is elected. Just check his feckless response to China's phony islands in S. China Sea.

I don't think there is a lot of separation between Cruz and Trump supporters. Both seem to have the other as their second choice, but one group likes to throw out the other can't win.

Every time a Trump guy says Cruz doesn't have a shot I put these up. Either they are only polling men and conservatives or the numbers don't back that up. I understand Trump supporters thinking he has a better shot. They wouldn't be Trump supporters if they didn't, but the numbers show Cruz has a very good chance as well.

Clinton vs Cruz: tied
Clinton vs Trump: Clinton +4.8

I have no idea where the actual numbers are, but this tells me both have a chance.

The only one who has a shot at Clinton is the one who has a shot at winning the GOP primary...and it aint Cruz.

Well, the numbers don't back that assertion up, but we'll see. It seems like whatever happens people won't be too disappointed with who get the GOP nomination. It's going to be one of them.

What numbers? Cruz may take Iowa but that's the kiss of death. Didn't Hucksterby and Sanatorium? After Iowa it all Trump.

The Real Clear poll averages above, but now you are saying potentially winning a primary is now a bad thing? I'm glad you support your guy. If Cruz is out I'm there with you, but there is a way to do it while accepting the evidence that Cruz has a good chance as well. Trump may have a better chance. We'll see what happens pretty soon. I'm glad there are two strong choices at the top.

I could say winning Iowa is a bad thing or I could say winning Iowa doesn't mean shit. Iowa leans toward the religious right and it always has. After Iowa, the polls show Trump has clear sailing.

I still think Trump is the worst possible thing gun owners can hope for. Despite early stage popularity, all he's doing is cannibalizing the Republican voter base and thereby handing it to the (inevitable) Democratic candidate Clinton. He may be saying what people want to hear right now, but at the end he will never be a serious or viable candidate (I.e., there is no prospect he could ever win an election). Someone will have to pick up the pieces of a Republican campaign once he washes out, and this will only serve to strengthen the Democrat position.

For this reason I don't see his "refreshing" perspective as worth a damn as the OP suggests.
