Thank you to everyone for this lifeline. It's been an honor to share with you all.

Glad I have the day off today to fully enjoy the historic moment and enjoy the coverage, fun, festivities, and even some firearms. Kicking it all off with some Chick-fil-A breakfast. Big Grin

Great thread para. Thanks for the opportunity for all of us to "share the ride". I'll never forget this campaign that led to today.

Trump and his family were spending the night at Blair House, just across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House.

The president-in-waiting will attend church with his family Friday morning, then meet President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for tea at the White House. The Trumps and the Obamas will travel together in the presidential limousine for the short trip to the Capitol for the noon swearing-in ceremony.

‘This is the greatest guy’: Trump meets FedEx courier, offers him $10,000

The former security guard from rural Illinois walked into a tent behind the Lincoln Memorial and gave a bear hug to the man who would soon become the most powerful leader in the world.

“Hey, Donald Trump,” said Shane Bouvet, with all the casualness of a 24-year-old.

The president-elect beamed back: “This is the greatest guy.”

The unlikely meeting occurred after Trump said he read a profile of Bouvet in The Washington Post and was impressed by his story. Bouvet, a struggling single father, had spent nights working and days volunteering on Trump’s unlikely presidential campaign.

The volunteer efforts earned Bouvet an invite to an inaugural ball. But just weeks ago he was unsure he could pay for a proper suit and shoes to wear for the festivities. A friend stepped in and bought a suit and got the shoes donated.

Now, improbably, it was the night before the swearing-in and Bouvet had picked his way past the Secret Service and was hanging out with the president-elect, top Trump advisers Reince Priebus and Stephen K. Bannon and the first-lady-to-be Melania Trump. The meeting occurred in a holding room just minutes before Trump was to take the stage for pre-inauguration concert at the Lincoln Memorial.

Tears welled in Bouvet’s eyes. Trump signed an autograph for Bouvet. Then, they decided to call Bouvet’s father in Stonington, Ill.

“Hey, Dad,” Bouvet said with the call on speakerphone. “I’m with Donald Trump.”

“Hey, Don, you have a great name,” Trump laughed, complimenting Bouvet’s father on the name they shared. “You have a good boy.”

After the call, Trump signed an autograph for Bouvet’s 4-year-old son. Trump asked Bouvet if he was still with the mother of his child. Bouvet said no, and the thrice-married Trump said, “That happens.”

Then he looked at the autographs he had scribbled, and made a prediction: “After that, she’ll have you back. You’ll be a great celebrity.”

Eventually, Trump and his staff posed for photographs with Bouvet and offered him a round of applause. At the end, Trump put his hand on Bouvet’s back and told an aide, “Send him a check for $10,000.”

Bouvet broke down and cried.

With that and a round of goodbyes, an aide ushered Bouvet out of the tent. Bouvet wiped tears from his eyes as he melted back into the tens of thousands that had gathered for the concert.

“Did that just happen?” he asked out loud.

Ha! I had the exact same thought as I took my cans to the curb last night. We have an early morning trash pick up.

Got up at 5:00pm yesterday. Had to work some OT last night. Was going to try to catch some sleep this morning, but that ain't happening. Going to stay up so I don't miss Trump getting sworn in. I'll be pretty tired, but it's worth it.

Have to agree with others, I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning.

Only three hours to go! It’s hard to believe that this day is finally here. I’ve been waiting eight long years for it. Trump’s rise and final victory was surprising too. It’s still incredible to me that one man could take on and triumph over Hillary, the mainstream media and the entire political establishment. If President Trump just keeps 20% of his campaign promises he’ll be the greatest president of my lifetime (been around since LBJ). God Bless this nation and President Trump!

According to a local news radio station, she will be on the podium today. I wonder what will be going through her warped little mind?

Republicans are going to win more seats in the Senate in 2018, President-elect Donald Trump told a cheering crowd at a Candlelight Dinner at Union Station in Washington D.C., where he also congratulated his top aides.

Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s pollster and most visible spokeswoman, “has been so great,” Trump told the allies, appointees, staff, and donors. “Wow. So there is no den she will not going into. When my men are petrified to go on a certain network… then she gets on it, she just destroys them.”

Trump also joked about his donors. “I want to thank all of our donors, the big donors, small donors,” he said. “There are donors that got really, really generous the day after the election was won. Oh, I have a couple, they got so generous. ‘Hi Don, I just want to tell you I just sent a big check.” Oh great. Should have sent it a week before. That’s okay. We love you too,” he added.

“We have an election coming up in two years,” Trump told the crowd after thanking his early and his late donors. “We’re going to get a lot of Senators and a lot of Congressmen elected, a lot … [Sen.] Mitch McConnell is here, he’s smiling so big, he loves those words.”

McConnell is the GOP leader of the Senate. In 2018, he will have the opportunity to push his narrow 52 to 48 majority up to a dominant 58 or even 60 seats. If the GOP reaches 60 Senate seats, then McConnell will usually be able to break the Democrats’ “filibuster” ability to block legislation.

Forty Senators are needed to maintain a filibuster.

Today is a fantastic day! Ladies and gentleman, thanks for pulling together on this one! Para posted back around page 500-800 or so, and I'm paraphrasing here, "When President Honey Badger is sworn in on Inauguration Day..." When I read it, I somehow just felt like it was an eventuality and not just a possibility. Congratulations, Donald J Trump! Congratulations, America!

Things already seem brighter.
A beautiful day here, with a predicted high of 73 degrees. A great day in America. Think I'll have some breakfast.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]
