Yes, they do.

Population of US: 318.9 million
Population of CA: 38.8 million proportion of total: 12.1%
Population of WY: 582 thousand proportion of total: .0018%

Total electoral votes: 538
Electoral votes CA: 55 proportion of total: 10.22%
Electoral votes WY: 3 proportion of total: .0055%

If you take the 7 states with the fewest electoral votes (3 each) you could win 21 votes.

Should have mentioned there is a thread on the electoral college that would be a better spot for questions:

There is nothing that Hillary did that couldn't be (mostly) appropriately punished by being tried, convicted, disgraced, rotting in prison for the rest of her life and in hell for eternity thereafter.

However, President Trump should focus on moving the country forward, not burning his political capital being vindictive toward his former competition. It is certainly possible for him to focus on MAGA and place people of integrity in the DOJ and leave it to them to see that justice is done. There is a concept called plausible deniability, and it has just as much of a place in this case as it does in some black operations.

Besides, the President really should be focusing on Making America Great Again, not trying to punish some dried up old has-been shrew. We wouldn't expect him to deal with taking out the White House trash - he has people for that. The Clintons and the many corrupt folks who enabled them are no different - they are trash and President Trump should have people to take care of that.

I sincerely hope that he will hire the right folks and give them whatever they need to get the job done. However, I trust that he will set the priorities for his administration using his best judgement and I assume that he knows more about what he needs to deal with than I ever will.

I am sorry for your loss. This is a good sign of Mr. Trump's character. The fact that he went out of his way to thank the Secret Service in his election night speech was impressive as well.

No offense, and I do not mean this in a snarky way, but I'm gonna go ahead and trust the judgement of the guy who has built a multi-billion dollar business building projects in some of the most business-unfriendly cities and states in the country, as well as some of the most business-unfriendly countries in the world. He then went into a field in which he has zero experience and beat 15 candidates, some outsiders, some of the most connected insiders in the party. Then he took on the democrat machine and candidate who was expected to be coronated and backed by a media that moved from being biased to being openly hostile and beat her handily. I'd say he probably has a good idea on how to judge people, how to use them to his advantage and how to get things done.

No offense, but nothing you just said has anything to do with sticking to conservative principles and taking on the establishment. Romney is not only a major part of the GOP establishment, but again, his instincts were that Hillary was a better choice. He wouldn't be coming in to be Trump's puppet and he's one of the last people I want pushing policy.

Trump has proven he can get elected, but we are still waiting to see if he will stay true to the conservative principles he's adopted over the last two years. My money is on that he has changed, but the last thing I want is RINOs and establishment people in his administration pushing him back the other way. Pence and Sessions are the types of people he needs around him and I see no need to dilute their voices with people like Romney. There are enough choices out there who can get things done without having to bring in someone like him.

I get the sense that the media is throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Since Trump is cutting off their access, this might be their only play.

Also, people need to remember the saying: In order for a vampire to come in and suck your blood dry, you have to invite him in first.

That helps but I'm still stuck on the math and the proportionality issue.

Every state has automatically 2 electoral votes. Then they get additional votes based on population. But there aren't THAT many states with monster populations...NY, CA, TX spring to mind. So while those states DO get more votes individually, they don't have enough to swing the whole election by themselves. Getting the big states IS important, but you have to get a bunch of little ones also.

At least that's how I explain it.

The states get one vote for each member of Congress. Each state has two Senators and one or more Representatives. House seats are adjusted every ten years, after the census. Congressional districts are then adjusted accordingly.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Trump is already having an influence in national advertising. Wouldn't have seen this ad a month ago.

Pheasant-elect: Bird with Trump quiff draws crowds in China...

Quote:
HANGZHOU, China (Reuters) - A pheasant has become a star attraction at a Chinese safari park after visitors said its golden head feathers resembled U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's famous blond quiff.

A picture of a five-year-old golden pheasant called "Little Red" went viral this week after a journalist from the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou pointed out the "striking similarity" between the male bird and Trump, China's ruling Communist Party's official People's Daily reported.

The resemblance doesn't stop at the feathers, said Gao Hongqiang, the park's head bird feeder.

"After comparing it with the photos ... we've found that not only are their hairstyles alike, their eyes' expressions are pretty similar," Gao told Reuters.

Visitors at the park said they saw the similarity.

"I think this pheasant is very beautiful and Trump's hairstyle in the U.S. presidential election sprang to mind when I first saw the bird," Jin Huofeng, 34, said.

"I was wondering whether Trump's hairstylists got inspired by the golden pheasant."

Yep. The invisible hand. Trump's predecessor was adept at the use of such. His hand is all over the damage done but cannot be seen.

San Francisco really goes out of its way to show the rest of the nation how special they are.

quote:
The United Educators of San Francisco, the union that represents teachers in the city’s public schools, released a controversial guide Wednesday to teaching public school children about Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in the recent election.
The guide, called the “Lesson Plan on the November 2016 Election,” informs teachers that “a racist and sexist man has become the president of our country by pandering to a huge racist and sexist base,” and suggests they teach children the same.

In fact, the lesson plan urges teachers not to tell students that Hillary Clinton lost the election (original emphasis): “DO NOT: Tell them that we have LOST and that we have to accept this. We do not have to accept ANYTHING except that we must and will fight for justice against an unjust system and against unjust people.”

The guide also recommends that teachers allow students to use profanity when expressing their feelings about the election, because “you would too if you have suffered under the constructs of white supremacy or experienced sexism, or any isms or lack of privilege.”

The Associated Press reports that the union “posted the plan on its website and distributed it via an email newsletter to its more than 6,000 members. The school district has more than 57,000 students.”

The school district refused to condemn the plan, saying that it was optional.
