They are half way there. If enough states agree to direct their electors to vote for whoever wins the national popular vote, the Electoral College becomes moot.

I wonder what he was thinking when he tweeted about this. He was a Republican at this point, supporting Mitt Romney. The Electoral College is only a disaster for Democrats. Republicans can never win the popular vote and lose the EC. That can only happen to Democrats because of the huge solid blue populations of CA, NY, IL, MA, etc.
Why would he be railing against the EC back then?

While this year the REPs had a lot more senators up for reelection, in 2018 it reverses where more DEMs are up.

The usual justification cited is that smokers cost companies more in health coverage. I’m not convinced of that claim myself, but it is different than firing someone because of their political choices. And I believe I’ve seen here in the past year or so approval expressed of a (probably apocryphal) story about a CEO firing everyone who had Obama bumper stickers on their cars because of that man’s antibusiness policies and attitudes.
