A buddy texted me yesterday that he was let go from oil field supply company. Likely a combined victim of China & Saudi/Russia struggle that is dropping oil prices to hurt US oil producers.

All three of those countries hate liberty and are friendly with misery.

Be good to get through this all as quickly as possible.

As of now, the place where I work hasn't had to have layoffs. But as the economic impact of all the quarantine measures ripple through the economy I'm sure we'll have some. The economic damage from the COVID-19 panic will likely do far more damage than the virus itself.

Man, I feel for you.

The bottom fell out of my business yesterday. Most of our customer base made the decision to close yesterday based on the recommendations of the association that they belong to. The head of the company then sent out a letter yesterday trying to explain cash flow during this time and the sales force went nuts and a ten minute warning to get on am emergency conference call followed.

The company’s good for a couple of months it seems, it sounds like we have enough reserves for that.

If it comes to it, I’ll be looking at Amazon and Walmart and the like to bring some cash in right now.

Sorry to hear that. My sister was furloughed on Thursday. She works for a company that sets up stages and other stuff for concerts and other large venues. Their business has basically fallen to zero. I've been laid off before and it truly sucks.

A ton of restaurants laid people off today here in the Panhandle I'm told (I heard it from a trusted source).

Which isn't a all surprising.

Even these successful business don't have a pile of cash to pay people to not work, or to pay out some government mandated sick time. Or to take a loan out to pay for sick time.

Most people fail to realize how thin most businesses are on a week to week or monthly basis. It's because they are BUSINESSES, they require the activity of selling goods / services to survive.

And I DO feel sorry for people who are laid off / let go. It has to suck. But the train has been coming down the tracks for several weeks and even with the gubbiment saying "it'll be alright", it isn't going to be alright unless you are nimble and prepared. It's gonna suck.

Yeah, I assume hiring is going to be at a stand still for the upcoming time. Hoping this all blows over quickly and things bounce back. Going to take the weekend to decompress and then figure out a plan on Monday. I know there are going to be a lot of people on this forum that are effected by this too. I’ll keep everyone in my prayers.

I got the phone call and email that we were being furloughed, and the the Durham Office was closing. The Durham Office is in charge of seven counties.

Then I got word that my new job will not start till April 26 or later.

I just applied to a couple of stock jobs to get out of the house and to stay in shape since the gym closed.

I also applied for unemployment benefits.

Friday was a nice warm day, so I took the day to relax, read a book and work on my tan.

It sucks but I have been poor most of my life so this is nothing new. The toilet flushes and the roof doesn't leak too bad so in my mind we are pretty well off except for the stupid dryer that I have been working on for a week.

Sorry to hear that.

Situation isn't good at all but how much worse would it be if the unemployment rate was already high?

My daughter, single Mom with two kids just got advised she could work from home, if... she adds a dedicated phone line on her dime and uses her own personal computer outfitted with their software and VPN. She works for a credit union as a legal assistant specializing in foreclosures in their administration facility that isn't even open to the public so I'm a little surprised they are sending them home. She has huge pot of paid sick leave so she is hoping they will wave the doctors note requirement and let her use those hours.

Collecting dust.

I didn’t get laid off but my salaried position was converted to hourly and I work in the live events industry so there’s no hours to be had. The work will come back but I have no idea when.

Today I went to Winn Dixie and was hired as a stockboy/cashier. It’s not a lot of money but it will help and I need something to do everyday anyway. I could have filed for unemployment and probably made the same money but I’m able to work and there’s jobs to be had so I’ll go work.

Sorry to hear that, but it is not happening everywhere.

The local 'Triangle' manufacturing plant has half of the Coronavirus cases in the county working at their assembly line.
The employees are being told that after the test comes back positive, they have to come in and give the doctor's report in person. Roll Eyes

Jesus. No matter your perspective on the overall reaction to coronavirus, that's just stupid.

As I understand it, Saudi Arabia did not up their production to hurt the U.S., but to hurt Russia. It is my understanding SA asked Russia to drop their output a bit to prop up prices. Russia declined. "Fine," said SA, "see how you like this," and upped their output.

We simply got caught in the crossfire.

Sorry to hear of your situation, EmpireState. The husband of a friend of my wife's is in a similarly bad spot. General Manager for a local dealership group.

If the Feds really do send us money, I'm thinking of suggesting to my wife we pass it along to them. We're in good shape. Them: Not so much. (Just made the suggestion. She's on board with the idea.)

Sorry to hear about this. Car dealership (among others) are taking a big hit. Here in Las Vegas area, ALL dealerships will be closed unit April 18th, per order of the Governor. Only the repair shops are open, because they are essential. Hope you get a new job soon.

I just bought a used vehicle the other day(2013 Tundra), 1.5 weeks ago. During the negotiations I threw in the Idea of a ‘Covid-19 discount’.

I don’t think it helped much, did the usual back & forth. Yes, after walking from two previous deals I wanted to get it over with, bought it.

I imagine dealerships are hurting, all the job uncertainty too for us buyers.

Local dealerships around me in central Florida are also laying off staff due to lack of business. I have been shopping for a new truck to pull my travel trailer, Chevy, Ford Dodge...I'm looking at them all. I was in a Chevy and a Dodge dealer yesterday and they were ghost towns. Oddly, the remaining sales force didnt really seem interested in negotiating. Everyone is offering 0 percent for 72 or 84, but Im a cash buyer. Not really desirable to a dealership, I know.

If any of the dealerships would have seemed to be halfway interested in selling a truck, I would have bought. They were both still acting as though there's absolutely no room to negotiate off of MSRP.

If I remember correctly Empire aren't you in the DFW area? Amazon is heavy in Coppell and other areas of the metroplex. Also, check municipal and county government openings. Good luck!
