Dear MS Word Guru... What I am trying to do is build a sequentially numbered headings for an appendix (without losing headings 1 through 5) as follows in the appendix. heading 1: Appendix A Heading 2: A.1 Heading 3: A.1.1 (same as the standard headings in Styles - which I do not want to lose) Next Appendix Heading 1. Appendix B Heading 2: B.1 etc I have figured out how to make the heading 1 not number 2 and 3 so they are related (sequentially) to heading 1. Ayybody know enough to break it down Barney style (or have a link I can follow)? Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I think you need a section break between appendices. The numbering should restart after a section break, as opposed to a page break. NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

Did it. Heading 1 will roll from A to B. It's the heading 2, 3, etc which I can't get to be A.1 and so on. Life moves pretty fast. Had to go get my laptop and try it. This should work click “multi-level list”. Select “define new multilevel list” Pick your number style - Level 1 will need to be the letter, level 2 will be numbers Find “Include level number from:” - and select “Level 1” NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"
