I’m no longer unemployed...

SigM4I’m no longer unemployed...
Just severely underemployed. Took a job at the local rental equipment company as a yard hand basically doing whatever needs to be done; maintaining equipment, loading customers, cleaning returns, manual labor. Main attraction is that I can have medical coverage for the family and it’s about 5 mins from the house. At 38 though it’s been rough acclimating to the environment once again.
Months spent looking for a new job after being laid off have lead me to this. You’d think that sending out 2-3 applications a day for those same months would have resulted in something, but mostly it’s resulted in a lot of dashed hopes. The economy can’t get back on-track again fast enough at this point.
This‘ll keep our heads above water for the time being though.
Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view.

mod29Congratulations on the new job.
I respect a man or woman that works for a living and pulls their own weight.
The type of work is less important.
Better opportunity will come around eventually.

xantomI hope your situation improves soon, but keep your head up. Doing whatever it takes is commendable IMO. Maybe some others on here can help you find better work in your area. Good luck!

SIG4EVACongrats on the job. What experience do you have? In this day and age, you have a significantly better chance to get a job by referral vs. filling out applications.

This, my entire business is built on referrals.
But, good to hear you got a new job and health insurance. Health insurance is such a huge thing in this era.

odinI have much respect for those of you who take a job just to keep your families safe. I've done that once or twice in my career and found that the business owners recognized what I had to offer and soon promoted me to a managerial position. Work hard and you will be rewarded!

ChicagoSigManIt's the fact of work and providing for yourself and your family that provides dignity, not the type of work.
Congrats on doing what needs to be done. I'll send a prayer up for your talents to be more fully utilized in the near future.

Oz_ShadowGreat to hear! If it’s not what you ultimately want to do, hang in there. I’ve always heard finding a job is easier when you already have one.
