Nontypical, your rope come along looks like a great match for my application. Does that guy run a length of rope for any length ? It looks like a continuous drum of sorts, so you're not limited to xx feet of max pull. Is that the case for yours ?

They usually come in a set length. This one is 20’. You can use a long rope on the tree, then attach the rope come a long to it using the hooks. The rope doesn’t wrap around the drum like a cable come a long, but exits out of the bottom so that you can quickly pull up the slack by just grabbing the tag end.

Ok, I got it, thanks for that visual, Looks exactly like what I need - simple and clean, for a non-rigger like me.

So what I'm seeing based on your description, is the hook end of the puller is my anchor side, and the other side is where the rope feeds through to the mechanism, whereby I then attach the free end of the rope to my work piece (the tree I'm pulling on), then I pull out the slack as you described, then engage the mechanism to pull mode and go to work.

Yes, exactly. But the 20’ of rope is probably not enough. You will probably need to tie a longer rope to the tree, then attach that to the hook on the come a long.

I have taken down about 20 trees with this model, I went with 200 feet of rope, which may be overkill for your situation. Maasdam Rope Puller

I purchased some heavy duty nylon straps and shackles to go around the tree to be taken down, and the tree you pull from.

I have dropped some pretty good sized trees with this in the exact location I wanted them to fall, the higher up you can get the rope in the tree, the more leverage you get.

Whatever model you buy, make sure you get compatible rope, I believe it has to be 3 strand 1/2" to properly seat in the puller wheel.

Nontypical, yes, I figured 20' or rope is not enough. Besides 3 strand 1/2 inch poly rigging rope, it seems the Sampson brand of the same is better, and this company sells the Maasddam puller with any length of rope you want:

Here's their wordage if you don't want to read the link:

Comes with the Maasdam Continuous Rope puller, a .8" x 6' endless loop sling (4,240 lb. choker WLL) and 200' of Samson Pro-Master 1/2", 3-strand rope. This rope grips better with the puller.

Maxxpower, thanks very much for explaining your success with this unit. It looks like a winner for my use as well.
