Flying into Greenville in the near future to celebrate a friend's birthday. She is down in the Moore/Duncan area. She doesn't eat out very often (has been in the area about 5 years).

I'd like to take her to a decent restaurant for dinner in celebration. Not so worried what type as much as finding something NICE. I'm willing to drive over to Greenville, west to Simpsonville, or up to Spartanburg just to give some idea of range.

I know the SigForum brain-trust won't let me down.

Firebirds on Woodruff Rd, Carabbas on Woodruff Rd, Ruth's Chris on Roper Mountain (I think), Bonefish Grill on Woodruff Rd. There are other nice restaurants in downtown Greenville.

I've only been to Firebirds recently, and it's great.

Phone's ringing, Dude.

It's kind of hard to make suggestions without knowing what kind of food someone likes.

We enjoy The Farehouse in Taylors. It's pretty laid back and can be loud.

The Trappe Door in downtown Greenville is very good.

One of my favorites is Ristorante Bergamo, also downtown. The salami and cheese board is wonderful. Pretty restaurant overlooking Main Street.

Schwaben House on Laurens Road in Greenville is another favorite. German food and their soups are always excellent. It's a nice restaurant, but the decor is kind of a weird European vibe.

If you were to go to any of these restaurants, definitely make reservations. Google images has pictures of the interiors if you're interested.

Level 10 in downtown Spartanburg. A Rick Erwin restaurant. Steaks were very good and they have a good wine list. My wife and I have been there several times.

There are 3 Rick Erwin restaurants in Greenville, as well. West End Grille, Eastside, and The Vista.

Spartanburg is closer to Moore, though.

Chophouse 47 off of I85 and Pelham Rd.

High end steakhouse maybe a 10 minute drive from Moore/Duncan.

I want to thank everyone for the suggestions. My friend asked at the last moment if we could drive to Charlotte, NC. We had dinner there at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Well worth the investment - she was very pleased with the food and service.

We also drove up to Asheville, NC a couple of days later. Beautiful drive. Asheville is smaller than she thought it would be.

All in all, a very nice trip. Hope to go out and visit again in the near future.

Oh, and by the way, found out that that region of the state is called Upstate. I didn't know before and ask forgiveness for using the wrong term.
