Been one hell of a Summer, not in a good way

OttoSigBeen one hell of a Summer, not in a good way
Got sick returning from St Croix on June 4th, common cold, turned into Bronchitis for 7 weeks, pulled stomach muscle on right side 4 weeks in and that healed. During the 7th week I got intense pain in my left side rib cage. PCM is 3 weeks out so emergency room is only way to prove I can’t be at work.
Doctors diagnosis: Virus (not Covid) has wrecked me and the 2 months of coughing has separated some ribs. And lounges have basically atrophied (don’t know medical term for lung shrinkage), so I’ve gone from long distance running to struggling up steps.
Thankfully the cough begins to subside so I’m only in pain sparingly.
Finally get an appointment with the PCM to discuss steroids and a medical waiver for my upcoming PRT and what happens the day of my appointment???
Test positive for Covid. Cough is back in full force, even less lung capacity and my fucking ribs are just wrecked.
Haven’t been sick in years. I’m irritated and tired of feeling like crap. I’m gonna live but damn, let’s get on with it already.
I owe some forum member some items, Karmas, VtHoky especially, but I haven’t left the house except to go to work much lately.
Just venting, hope y’all’s summer was enjoyable!

TheFrontRangeI’m so sorry! Several years back I wound up with bronchitis with coughing fits by which I definitely pulled something in the ribcage area, but nothing to the extent of what you’ve been experiencing.
Praying for you for healing and a return to sweet normalcy!

pedropcolaThat sucks. What is a PCM? I'm thinking primary care something that starts with an M. Hopefully the covid isn't so bad. I got it awhile ago and it was a bad cold for 4 days, hope you do even better. Once you are back on your feet your lungs will come back quick.

konata88Wow. I hope you fully recover quickly. I hate bronchitis - gives me lower body pains and headaches from coughing so much. I keep codeine (or some form of it) as a cough suppressant - otc in Japan but got a Rx for cough syrup here as well.
Time for some of that chicken soup with ginseng and stuff.

PCM is primary care manager.

Rey HRHI hope you recover soon. I've had a prolonged coughing condition for several months long ago but not enough to separate ribs.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Yep, and the PCM is always TDY when you need to see them. Of course you can go to the base ER if you dare.

vthokyGreat golly, man!

I had no idea you were under the weather so harshly.
I do know bronchitis sucks, but separated ribs has
got to be an awful thing.

HRKHave had the same situation, almost every summer for the past few years, now on a steroid inhaler, this year, a slight cough but none of the heavy lung filled, nasty rib busting cough.
Get in to a pulmonary specialist, get tested and the correct medication makes all the difference, they put me on Arnuity Ellipta 200 mcg really helps

10X-ShooterDamn, what a rough go you’ve had lately. Here’s hoping you turn the corner soon on all this.

dgshooterAt least you went to St. Croix. It would have been really shitty if you would have come down with the maladies before your vacation.

400mSorry to hear it. Covid and pneumonia sidelined me from just before Christmas to the last week of February. Staring at a wall for 8 days in the hospital…
Try to stay engaged and keep your mind busy. We’re always here so vent away.
Get well soon
